Topic: 72 CL360?

One of my neighbors is selling a 72 CL360 for $675. I looks to be in really nice shape. I just did a quick drive-by to see what year and how much. Nice looking bike.

I didnt think (as usual) the 360 came out untill 74.    Anyway I enjoy my 76 cb.  The 74/5 bikes had bed cam chain tensioners but where supposed to be recalled.

You might want to double check the model year.  As CB650 indicated, 360's were first produced for the 1974 model year.   

The 360 was the successor engine to the venerable 350 and arrived with a few problems, most notably the cam chain tensioner recall.  There were also issues (and updates) concerning the rocker arm shafts.  These two areas should be closely scrutinized prior to purchase.

Also, you can tell if the engine has had the recall updates, because there will be a 'dimple' on the engine serial number tab.  I think there was one done for each.

On my old project 360, you can see the dimples added - one in front of the entire number, one just above the dash.



I like the 360's.  Some don't, because they came with the cam riding directly in the aluminum of the head, which makes them vulnerable if you starve 'em from oil.  But, zillions of Honda XL models came that same way, and it just hasn't been a problem...  more a 'potential' problem.  They came with a 6-speed transmission, which I think was a plus.  And, well, they were just nice all-around unpretentious motorcycles.  Not maybe as 'revolutionary' or 'legendary' as the 350 and the 305 before it, but nice bikes all the same.
