will the lower tree from a K5 align with the upper tree from a K8 and fit on a K1?

No, keep them in sets.
Both will fit on all years, but 77/78 set on 76 and down will cause tubes to touch on stock tanks.

my K1 tubes touch my dunstall tank now

it's not an issue since I'll be welding some stop tabs soon

my problem is I have a K8 top tree and it doesn't fit with the k1 bottom.
the K8 is a 1/2 inch closer to the neck.

Correct you cant mix either of the late parts, with the either of the early ones.

I have a set of 78 trees that I'm using as paper wieghts. You can have em if you want em, but you gotta pay to ship.

I believe the K model triples have a 60mm offset and the F models have a 50mm offset. I would think the K8 to be as per the F model.
