Came 2-3 feet from getting creamed by a car last night
« on: May 17, 2009, 10:50:54 AM »
I'm new to bikes and that's the first time I had a close call. It scared the SH!T out of me, more than I usually am on my bike, and taught me a lesson. If the guy had not seen me I would have gotten his bumper in my right leg. My awareness shot through the roof after that. I'm glad it happened even though it turned my stomach to mush for a while.

Glad to hear you're safe. I was talking with a family friend recently who has been riding motorcycles with his wife for 30+ incident free years and he really emphasized how important it is to treat every other vehicle on the road like it is trying to kill you.

I had an odd situation recently that gave me that same feeling in my stomach, I was coming to a stop at a red light, check my mirrors and see a Mercedes flying right at me from the rear. The jerk swerves to the left of me and rides up on the raised concrete median coming within inches of my bike just so he could try and make the green left turn signal. 10 years ago I would have chased the guy down and given him a piece of my mind but I'm too laid back now. I was clipped while riding in Boston once by a clueless guy in a delivery van so I have a pretty big problem with people who drive recklessly and put others in danger.

+1 on the above. a close call is a healthy thing. and assuming you're invisable is sound advice too. riding on two makes me better with four.

very glad you are well.

Great advice, and i know it sounds a bit paranoid but i would rather be paranoid than dead.... ;)

Funny thing about regret is...... its better to regret something you have done than to regret something you haven't done.

I bought a cb900F a while ago and it had been dropped and hit a stop sign right in the middle of the tank, it had only 1200 miles on it so it was almost new. I bought a new frame and tank and a few small bits and had an almost new very cheap bike, Around $1000 Aussie dollars...Bargain. On my first outing i went round to show my mate the new Honda, 2 minutes down the road and a bloody LARGE dog ran straight in front of me, i stood up to try and ride over it but failed and was unceremoniously slapped chest first on to the blacktop, i was ok, only winded,  but my bike had a busted alternator, headlight and bent forks. To make matters worse the old guy who owned the dog said to come round in a couple of weeks and he would pay for the damage which i did, only to walk straight into something i wasn't expecting, his son had just hung himself............ I couldn't bring myself to take his money.......

I like my women a little big. Natural. Now, they shave this and wax that. It's not right. I love natural women. Big women. This trend in women has to go. Bulomia, anorexia. That's just wrong.
