I have switched to Yamaha carb cleaner works good and not nearly as toxic or corrosive, rubber parts haven't melted? Tanks, the first thing to do is see how much crud,
can be removed first. A very bad tank last summer took about a week for me to get it clean,
from rinsing to get all the oils and varnish out, then rinsed and dry gravel from my drive way
for shacking to remove as much of the rust as possible then rinse and repeat till the heavy stuff is gone then about two days in electrolysis bath,on and off to check on the progress and make new solution. Clean as a whistle, I also have had good luck with acids, the easier way is electrolysis. As soon as the tank is clean let it dry ,like in Strong sun, then put about
1/2 cup 50/50 mix of gas and oil in the tank and get all of the inside coated with it.
I use (Berkebile 2+2 instant gum cutter/carb cleaner, works better than gum out! 42 years
of doing this stuff and I have never have creamed a tank and won't,if I think a tank needs lined I'll find another tank? Just some thoughts from my neck of the woods.
