Can't get rear wheel off a 77 cb550f
« on: May 20, 2009, 09:52:02 AM »
I got a flat tire and am trying to remove the rear wheel.  However, unlike all the pictures in the manual and everything I have found searching online, there is no lock bolt on the frame, and there is no way the wheel could just slide out.  Is there some special way that you have to remove the 77 550f's rear wheel?

Yeah I figured I could just slide it back, but the dropout is solid other than the enclosed slot for the axle to be adjusted in.  I removed the chain and everything, but I can't slide the axle out because the dropout is solid.

Take the nut off the. Axel, smack it gently with a deadblow or a mallet! Axel shaft should slide right out of the rim!
Presto !!!!!!

I have never had one stick. And pay attention to the washers and stuff, don't wanna loose them
guess who?

You have to fully remove the axel which can rust to the sleeve inside the hub and to the steel spacers on the outside ---TAKE NOTE OF WHAT FITS WHERE BEFORE YOU START---

If the original exhaust is fitted you will have to remove lower shock bolts and either lift wheel or frame to get bolt under or over silencer, depending, of course, wether somebody has reversed the direction of fitting!!

When its out clean up the spindle and spacer bores well and liberally coat with grease on re-assembly
