'76 cb200 gas tank on a '78 cb750k?
« on: May 20, 2009, 11:56:05 AM »
I understand it will be smaller, so let's get past the obvious. What else am I looking at as far as mounting?

ok, found a picture of the underside of the tank and it looks like the cups will have to be moved/altered. Any ideas on dimensions? Tank should be on it's way, but I'm anxious to find out info (like tank capacity would be nice ;D)

Ooo, I just sold my CB200 a couple weeks ago, otherwise I'd love to help you.

I believe the tank holds 2.4 gallons total. From memory, it was about 8-10 inches wide. That's all I got.

Good lord, Kev, whatcha doing to your poor SS?

I kid.

Hey to you and yours.  Wish I could be of wisdom and insight, as far as your tank switch.

The CL450 may be a closer fit. The mounts in the front are perfect and the tail doesn't quite reach the stock hold down point, but that is no problem. I think its 2.5 gal. The union tubes that go from one side to the other at the bottom back end, must be bent or other wise relocated as they hit the frame rails and keep the tail of the tank from dropping down to the rails. Also, some of the sheet metal of the tank will need to be reformed to get it to settle down. I'd bet the same is true with the Cb200 tank, too narrow at the rear. I have some pics somewhere. Here they are:

In the picture above, you can see how high the rear mounting tab is above the frame. That's because the tunnel at the rear of the tank won't sit down over the frame rails. I was thinking if I go that way, i would have my tank machinist make the modification. I'd bet your CB200 tank will have a similar problem.  If not we'll like to know.

What's up Skonnie? how's Chi-town treating you? We're finally having a cafe bike show here in Austin in a few weeks-I'll post up some pics when  it goes down. Hit me up if you come back into town.

I'll definately keep ya'll in the loop when it get's here. 2.5 isn't much (half of what I have now) :o I know a pretty wicked metal guy so if a tank stretch/mount fab is in order, it can be done. I was kinda hoping on keeping it pretty stock looks-wise, as the paint and tank pad are in great shape.
