Hello from Houston - '75 CB750K5, first bike ever
« on: May 21, 2009, 06:26:47 AM »
I've been lurking for a while and finally joined -- huge fan of this site.

After biding my time for a while, I finally bought a '75 CB750 a couple of months ago.  It ran, albeit rough.  Since bringing her home, I've stripped the frame clean and am in the process of cleaning and rebuilding many of the various asseblies.

I'm planning a cafe build (yeah, just like everyone else, it seems), so much of my research comes in that light.  I struggled mightily with the decision of whether to keep it all original and do more of a restoration, or do the cafe build I'd intended.  A previous owner made my decision easier -- after disassembly, I realized the P.O. had already made some irreversible modifications (like cutting the rear section of the frame to allow for a silly (IMO) solo seat/pillion pad combination).  I felt this opened the door for my own modifications (no longer feeling sacrilegious about permanently altering a perfectly good, intact vintage example of an original CB750).

So, with that long-winded introduction, I hope to contribute even one-millionth the amount I've already learned from this site and forum

Cheers!

Welcome! Your bike looks very much like my '77 (see sig). I don't think that shade of yellow was actually a stock color. Good luck on the build.

Definitely not a stock color -- just another reason I don't feel too guilty changing it!

I'm in the Heights.  If any other Houston people are out there and care to get together for a ride sometime, I'd be up for it!  As soon as I get her running, that is.   ;D

I make occassional trips to Laredo, not too far from you.  That would be a long ride, that's for sure, but fun I think -- as long as it's in the early spring (before the heat)!
