Is oil needed under head nuts?
« on: May 23, 2009, 12:15:20 AM »
I just buttoned up the head on my top end rebuild. I was flipping through my Clymer and saw at the back that it recommends putting some oil under the head nuts before torquing. I didn't see this in the OEM manual, and the Clymer didn't even say it in the regular text, it was just at the back. Is this a 100% must do? I haven't seen it mentioned before when reading about these bikes.

My advice flag it, if you haven't done it, too late now.....keep going forward...just my feeling on it.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

NO you dont as oil in the thread alters the torque.

You DO need to be certain that the nuts spin down the threads easy and dont bind on any crud tho'

Yeah, I have seen different torque values for dry and wet threads.
No matter how fast or how far I rode, I couldn't leave her memory behind.
