Finished painting the motor. Both the top and bottom ends use Duplicolor 500deg Hi-Temp Enamel. The top end is 1615 Aluminum, the bottom is 1651 Cast Coat Iron.
Process
-----------------------
Bottom End: Cases were not split. Clean thoroughly with simple green. Rinse. Copper wire brush all loose paint off. Rinse thoroughly with water. Wipe down with alcohol in spray bottle and a clean toothbrush to get all areas. Allow dry, applied 2 coats of paint (no primer). Ran out of paint, needed a third coat for complete coverage. It was too late to get more until the next day, so I waited a week for it to cure before applying third coat.
Top End: Head and barrels were bead blasted clean. Degreased and rinsed thoroughly. Wipe down with alcohol in spray bottle and a clean toothbrush to get all areas. Applied 3 light coats of etching primer, allowing two minutes to dry between each. Dried for at least 24 hours. Applied two light coats of paint, followed by a third medium-wet coat waiting 10 minutes between each. Process for the valve cover was the same, except I cleaned the old paint off with carb cleaner instead of having it bead blasted.
I had to stack on the top end on take a pic. Can't wait to put it back together for real and fire her up.
The Cast Coat Iron will match the pinstripe in my tank. It looks PHENOMENAL, doesn't it!?
