Bummer...nice looking ride you have there too.  We are supposed to have great weather here in WI.  Planning on getting many miles in starting tonight.  Happy Memorial Day to all...and don't forget to put those flags out.

Be safe out there riding this holiday weekend. Consider every vehicle is out to kill you. I'm sorry that I won't be able to enjoy the gorgeous weather on my bike due to the hit I took 9 days ago. I will try to enjoy what I can of the weekend though.... then back to the games with insurance co's and all on Tue.

I've just spent the afternoon painting the flag pole.  And Sunday I will ride Rolling Thunder, from The Pentagon to the Mall.  Along with Drew(78CB750CAFE) and anyone else we can find.

Nope brother, God gave his life for us and Vets gave their lives for our freedom, didn't know you were one. If it wasn't for you good selfless people we could be speaking another language right now. ;)
Thank you sir and I salute you. Just remember that what you did or have done was for a good cause and forget about the idiots that jazz up that GW crap.

I remember hearing stories of my grandpa telling me of how he walked right beside general Patton, and how they had to drink wine or their own piss over in france because all the water was poisoned. I am very fond of all our vets, young and old.

I would have joined the services long ago but I was working heavy construction at the time and figured that was my duty here in the states since I was very good at it and we needed it over here while all the other great people were at the other end of the world doing the same or worse things at no choice but for us and our own, that are a gathering of the whole world.
MY father almost lost his left leg in Vietnam, came back and made a love shild that was me, if he wouldn't have made it back I would not be typing this right now, he was messed up for two decades from it, along with his thyroid crapping out he had some rough times. He now is living a good life and riding a HD v-rod, making jewelry and working on hot rods.

That is awesome Goon, and thank you.

I actually went into the Marine Corps to operate heavy equipment. Then when I got out, no one wanted me lol. So now I am a machinist. Heavy equipment operator in Iraq = machine gunner. So if you ever need any advice on your 50 cal or 240G let me know haha.

So what is Memorial Day about except an excuse to get fall down drunk?

Something about celebrating the well-oiled war machine and our wonderful, beloved Military-Industrial-Congressional Complex?

That swill right there, that is what memorial day is about. Any other country and you'd have been picked up by some secret police and your family killed. So memorial day is the day for guys like you who seemingly hate the way your country is run to give thanks to the ones who died to make sure you can say things like that without fear.

Don't mind me I started early

My Dad and I are both Veterans. Dad was in the Army in WWII and spent time in Germany, France and England. I consider myself a Vietnam "Era" Veteran, cause I never went to Vietnam myself. Was in Japan, Korea and some Stateside (Charleston AFB and Hamilton AFB). I say Vietnam Era Vet because I don't want to take anything away from those who ACTUALLY went and fought there, you know?

I take time out on the days of remembrance, Give Thanks and Pray for those who served, those who died AND for their families of ALL those times (not just the World Wars, Korea and Vietnam)

glad i found this here thread. virtually everything i enjoy as an american is thanks to our vets. to any of you reading this... i am sincerely humbled by your service, what ever your political stripes. the absolute minimum i owe you is my thanks.

most rational minded people would agree this country, and others, would be in a world of hurt without you. my kudos is very much extended to vets of our friend nations as well.

and i'll never find the words to express what i feel for those who died for liberty.

i will NEVER ever forget the feeling i had when i was told i couldnt go to serve my country, and all because of a lack of judgement (typical teenager) resulted in a destroyed knee. i signed up to go into the marines on the delayed entry program. was supposed to leave on my 18th birthday in fact. i dont know if i would call it envy but i do admire those americans (and folks from other countries) that have chosen to serve their country. my hat (helmet) is off to you all.

Look guys, I understand Veterans Day, honor the living and dead soldiers who died in service for our country but Memorial Day seems like an excuse to get drunk and exhalt the great military power of a fading empire.

Military jingoistic propaganda at it's very best.

might wanna look up 'propaganda' there dukie. doesn't really apply. as far as the fading empire/jingoism rhetoric is concerned i'd day that has a distinct propagandist tone.

onlything i've read here, or ever heard from anyone else whose expressed an acknowledgment and reverence for this occasion, is the honor you speak of. oh sorry, there is the occasional individual who seeks every opportunity to  let every disinterested person within earshot know they think the u.s. is a corrupt nation that's responsible for so much bad that they can't let one expression of "jingoism" go by without smugly pointing out they know fancy words like "jingoism."

My Memorial day memory is when I worked at a music store an we set up the PA system for the Memorial day parade in Sandusky , MI . They had the Moving "Wall" that year.
Some verterans from the vietman war gave a spech in regards to thier friends that never came back.
That was a powerful moment. I lost it
God bless them all.

Memorial Day is to honor those who gave their lives during wartime. I will fly my Flag to honor those who have fallen. I will ride a mile over to our local Vietnam Memorial and run my fingers over the names of friends and classmates who I have not drank beer, laughed. celebrated a birth or a wedding with for most of my life.

Honor those who have fallen, and pray the madness of war will stop someday soon.

I usually keep quiet about my military service, but I am very proud to have served for 20 years in the US Army. My two sisters are also Army retirees. Our younger brother served as a tank crewman during desert storm, and our baby brother will be retiring in 2 years. He has served on countless tours to Iraq. Our Dad retired after 24 years and served during the Korean and VietNam wars. By the grace of God we are all still here and in one piece.  Now, my nephew is a combat medic with the 82nd airborne.  I am always thankful to vets.  I always thank God that today is not my day.

That being said, HAVE A HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY/ STRT OF SUMMER!

and no, my bike is still not roadworthy yet :(
