Them stupid image verification boxes for web sites. 'type the characters you see in the image' and the image just
looks like someone took a #$%* through a tea strainer. Refresh... more gobeldigook! Drives me insane!
surely there has to be a better way round things these days. </rant over>

I know what you mean...  I always have to keep refreshing until I get one that I can sort-of read.  Either that or I click the link that most of them tend to have that will say the letters and numbers to you so you don't have to decipher them visually.

I've only just noticed that button over the past few weeks. I wish I could record what it sounds like when I press that
button to play it back to you, needless to say I obviously don't have something that is sufficient to hear it installed
on my computer because it sounds like an angry steven hawkins in a bath talking 10x his normal speed I can't make head nor tail of it.  I absolutely hate maths but even I prefer the ones that ask you to add up a number or make an equasion.

Correct. A hassle at times, but folks have developed software to read text, get registered at a site and then spam (or worse) away. It's much harder to develop anything that will "read" a graphic, which is what Captcha is.

Yes...  We know what it's purpose is.  Still doesn't change the fact that it's annoying.
