Funny thing about regret is...... its better to regret something you have done than to regret something you haven't done.

Are they expensive?? I thought I read they were very reasonable in price (and I read they worked very well)?

I didn't think they were expensive, it's a small business and the guy aims to please. His products work.....can't beat that.

I have the regulator. It works fine and fits in the stock holes. Only issue I had is the wires, just hanging loose from the unit. From a lot of unfortunate experience I've found that such unsupported wires eventually fall off from "work hardening" of the copper where it flexes at the unsupported end. I just gooped some silicon around the wires where they connect to the unit. Either some sort of strain relief or using spade lugs riveted to the board would be better IMO.

Cost vs. value can vary from one member to another. Especially if you're a cheap bastard like me...

Hi,

I have had a rectifier from the Oregon guy (I think his name is Tony Meeks) for about 4 years.  It has been fine with no problems and he gives a lifetime gurantee.

The cost is all relative to your viewpoint.  I think the Oregon piece was a good buy for me.

I didn't know much about electrics when I bought it...... still don't know much now.  I wanted factory original back then, simply because I didn't know what else to do.  At that time (4 years ago) the Honda rectifier was about $160 smackers.  Tony's was about $90 smackers..... he said it was better and always guranteed.  I went with his...... as I said, it has been fine.  He gave support, complete instructions and was ready to help if I had problems.

We've heard nothing but good about the guy here in Portland area. Kit got a hold of him last year, before we had the bike running, asked him some questions... knowing she was a nubie and that she had some trepidation on going with non-stock anything, he offered to ride over here with the part, whenever we decide we are ready for it, and help us put it on and check everything out just to make sure we are satisfied and have it all perfect. That is what I call good customer service.  8) He still stands by that offer and we will be taking him up on it this summer after we wrestle with the rotor/stator issue. Yes, he gives a lifetime guarantee on his stuff. No other electronic manufacturer out there does that. Honda shop says if you open the package, there is no return.  :-\

I'd say it's worth the price plus some to have that kind of service and reliability. It's better than stock by far, which we all know was borderline at best.  :)

I ran his regulator in my 78 super sport for about a year worked very well but decided to upgrade to a reg/rectifier from electro sport.

Really? A lifetime warranty on an electrical part?  Sold!  I've only heard of a lifetime warranty on an electrical part from one other source...HM's ignitions.

from the front page of his website...

"All rectifiers and regulators made by
us are guaranteed not to fail Ever.

Many companies do not guarantee electrical parts.   I don't like taking a risk buying
a part without a guarantee and I don’t think that you should have to either.   I
guarantee my rectifiers and voltage regulators not to fail because I want you to be
assured that these rectifiers and voltage regulators are the best available.

In the unlikely event of a failure, mail it back and I'll replace (or repair) it, no
arguments, no hassles and most of all no BS.  I build my parts from the best
components and I have full faith that they will out last the rest of the bike."

I think that says it all.  :)

Speaking of HondaMan.. I believe he's up to his old tricks.

Aside from the recent "tuned up voltage regulator service" I believe he's gonna be offering a "drop-in" which will cover your Voltage Regulator, Rectifier, Fuse Block and Flasher.  Yahoo!

I got the regulator and rectifier from him and they look like some real quality items. It's been sunny here every day since I got it so I have not installed it yet because I have been using my spare time to ride instead of wrench. :)

Tony offers unsurpassed customer service and he knows his sh!t!
He actually spent an afternoon working on my bike at his house.
After replacing most of my connecters, he said I probably didn't need his upgraded reg/rec!
What a guy, of course I had to buy one!
Can't say enough about his product either.
My blinkers are "old school" incandescants and FAST, with a 50/60w halogen and a juke box!

I got mine hooked up and something is wrong. The ignition switch has no effect anymore. The bike runs fine and doesn't blow fussed or anything but as soon as I hook up the battery there is power to everything even when the key is in the off position. My wiring harness was pretty modified by the PO so the intructions that came with the new stuff didn't really jive with what was actually going on. I hate electrical!

Yeah, I've been talking with him via email. It sounds like the PO might have left me some presents in the wiring.

Super big props to Tony.
He went way beyond what was necessary with his help in diagnosing my problem. He wasn't able to talk me through the whole thing to get it fixed but I think that is more of my lack of knowledge and experience. Turns out some wires just got crossed even though I was very careful to keep track of what went where. Basically my behavior from my late teens and early twenties caused my bike to stop working. :P
