That's going to look great ffj.  Be careful with using a local guy.  Make sure they have done bike seats, so they get the padding right.  Going to have to re-do mine because the centre padding is too soft.

Yeah, i think the padding they use is the thick yellow kind and what you need is the stuff that looks like carpet padding.

More pics sent today, He is torturing me. But even if i got it today i dont have my bike and i havent heard from chris in a week and a half.

ANy suggestions on how to attach the seat pan to the seat? My ideas included velcro, or welding on aluminum nuts.

have you considers dzus fasteners?  they might work if you can find ones thin enough.  other than that, i'd say some velcro would do nicely, give it won't stick up too high...  or if you used some snaps, those would stay low profile and give you a secure mount

the dzus fasteners are to thick. But i think im going to use that style to hold down the rear of the seat.

What about some small posts attached to the bottom of the seat pan that go through base and are held on with hair cotter pins or washer clips. It would be quicker to remove than using bolts, and safer than velcro. I'd hate to see a nice seat get swiped...

Well once the pan is secured to the seat it really should never have to come off. I thought about the post with cotter pins and i would work but i think a small bolt head would be a cleaner look the a post sticking out. I think i need to source some alloy nuts.

My latest idea is to add a strip of aluminum on each side to give it a little thickness. Then drill and tap a few holes that i can bolt from the bottom. Man i need a TIG welder bad. They are so expensive though. Im gong to have the tank on my 750 re painted and then ill try and sell it to get a welder. Then i can get working on my 350. I can only work on 3 bikes at a time, thats my limit.

I know, right. I need 2 to ride because old bikes always brake and 1 to work on. I saw a CB360 pop up the other day but it was a basket case for $200. Does that count as another bike or just parts? My wife would be pissed. but if it was a good deal id do it anyway. Its easier to ask for forgiveness the to ask for permission.

Seat is paid for and should be in the mail tomorrow.....OH YEAH! now i just got to get chris to answer his F N phone. I want my bike back!!!.....With a sick a$$ pipe on it!!!!

Eastwood has a spool welder for aluminum that is $500. Much cheaper than a TIG machine.

Yeah, i have thought about that but i want to be able to make those stack of dimes lokking welds on my bike. Im going to try and get 3k for my 750. If i can i should be able to get a used TIG, english wheel and planishing hammer. Then i will never have to leave the garage.

Aren't you worried about discoloring or warping the tail unit by welding on those aluminum strips?

Also, I'm curious about what you said about the Dzus fasteners being too thick.  What's the problem with them?

The part that is being welded is the seat pan. It will be covered by the upholstery so no worries on discoloring. The brown seat in the picture is how i want my upholstery to be, its thin, so the fasteners would stick up and im pretty sure i would feel them.
