Looks real good man. Can you explain exactly what components you have got there? I can make out the battery, starter solonoid, and flasher.

The silver box is a Honda man ignition and the black thing is a reg/rec from Oregon electric.

Well, i had some plugs made up at the machine shop for the kicker hole. I had 2 covers so i had them make 2 plugs just in case i muffed one up.

Welded and milled. Attempt #1

It still has a few pin holes here and there but im sure it wont leak. Im not that great at welding aluminum yet.

Also according to BWALLER i need to make a plug for the case like this. Im a little scared to weld on the case.

After that im ready to start putting the motor back together. Crazy! I have been spending a little time on another bike as well. Its going to be a brat-ish bike....I think.

I think it's wise to also tack the a similar piece of aluminum inside the lower case to blank off the hole. I just tacked it in four spots so it's easily removed if need be. Make it as thin as possible and bevel the edges so it clears all the gearbox parts.

and it leaks. Dumped some alcohol inside and there was a small pin hole. I have a feeling this is going to be a pain.

You can seal it with some POR-15 tank sealer.
I used some on a custom clutch cover I did and it worked beautifully.

Not a bad idea. I'm going to get some larger tungsten. I don't think my welds are penetrating very well. If that doesn't work I'll use the por 15

ive been welding for ever, but aluminum just for the last year or so. it must be very clean, almost sterile, if you don't have any cleaner get some. sand or grind and then wash before you weld. don't use any thing to sand,file or grind with that has been used on steel and only use a stainless brush to clean with.

unless you already have been doing these things, in that case disreguard this post.

Yeah i use a stainless brush before i weld and I use acetone to clean the area before that. Im either doing something wrong or I think this metal just doesnt weld well. But I got the clutch cover oil tight. It still has some little pin holes here and there but Im just going to have to live with it. I also welded the case. Not as nice as Bwaller but should do the trick just fine.

I guess i can start putting things back in....wow.

I was using isopropyl alcohol and started using an acid based cleaner I got for the welding shop, it made a world of difference. The aluminum sheet stock I am using to build my parts has to be cleaned right before before its welded every time or it just makes a mess. I am doing all mine with a torch and when all is clean and right, it flows like water, when it's not, it looks like Swiss cheese.

Just an update if you dont follow my motor build. The cases went together fine. Turns out the pistons are machined wrong as well as the cylinder head being of .005 from one side to the other. So I have to scrap the cylinders and the pistons. I still need a new cylinder but i bought a few things to make myself feel better about the whole mess.

dynoman piston next to the junk one. Still waiting on my camshaft from web.

A square wave tig with the wave balance turned more to the neg wave side. It will give less penetration but more cleaning action.

I'm going in the root you are and IMO having all new up to date parts in my motor is my #1 priority. Looks great man keep it going.

Cam showed up today. Looks like it is coated in the same material as my rocker arms.

Those rockers look very nice indeed! A little different than the shiny, stock coating though.
