I would use (judiciously) a bit of velcro. Definitely secure enough, if you use too much you will bend the seat when taking it off....like taking knee pucks off the leathers....sometimes the fingers are not strong enough :)

If/when it wears out, it would be very fast and simple to re-new....very clean look too.  The only problem is the heat. Some velcro adhesive gets too soft in the heat....and gets unglued. after many years subjected to heat (car dash/radar detector in California) the adhesive will harden and be a #$%* to clean off.  But (temporarily) it should work good. Everybody mounts their transponders on race bikes with velcro and none fly away in the Button Willow heat.

Who knows.  :-[  Chris has my bike with one motor and im not sure which of my 2 motors i should tear apart.
I also picked up another 125 today. This one is a 78. I should have passed on it, its not the same kind as my 74 125s but for $150 i couldnt help myself.

I wasn't going to ask how the pipes were coming. ;)  But have you / he decided if they are going to be 4/4 or 4/2 yet?

The 125 looks like a nice find for 150, did it come with a title?

Chris will decide if its going to be a 4-4 or a 4-2 based on how many megaphones he can fit under my rearsets. As of 2 fridays ago he had the head pipes done but as he is doing it on his spare time its been a little slow going. The 125 has no paper work but its not hard to get registered in Cali.

I was told they are 750 modded pistons with the skirts teflon coated and the domes ceramic coated. Look like it to me. I like em.

Generally speaking, Honda OEM piston rings are of high quality and get the job done without breaking.
Some of the Henry Able 605cc kits are known for ring problems and are recommended that Honda rings be used
to prevent problems. So, I would go with that for these modified 750 pistons.

Bought a set of OEM rings from a forum member. Now i guess i can start looking into building up my motor since it wont be a while till my bike comes home from chris shop. I have to many projects right now. Trying to sell the 750, picked up another 125 that doesnt run, shop is to messy to work so it needs to be cleaned before anything can happen, all the while my wife fell off her bicycle and ruptured her spleen.  :o So i was at the hospital for a week and now her parents and i are taking care of her till she is all better. Crazy.

I have been thinking hard on how i will mount my seat. I guess i cant just bolt it right to the frame as that will wear the paint. I think i might just put some rubber padding on the bottom and then bolt it down. Frustrating to think about at this point as i cant just run out and see if it will work on the bike. This exhaust better be the most awesome thin ever. 8)

That's not good news regarding your wife.  Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

As for your seat, this might work.  Install snaps on the underside of the seat along the flat section.  Upolster the pan, but have 'flaps' along the sides that wrap under / around the seat to the snaps.  For the back curved portion to hold it tight, glue a strip of thin ply (like a 1/2 circle) on under the padding.  A couple of short ( ;)) screws from the inside to pull it tight.  That's what I did for the back of mine.

Here's an idea for mounting the completed assembly, it how bwaller did his race seat (near bottom of page).  Going to use this for my next one.  http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=83871.0#lastPost

FF,
I've enjoyed following your build, so thanks for sharing.  More importantly, however, are best wishes for a speedy recovery to your wife - you can't overvalue a spouse that lets you own/wrench multiple bikes.

Cheers,

Thanks.  True that, she is a good wife. Not many women will let you brake away for a few hours while they are recovering so you can go get another motorcycle. Im up to 5 and 3 was my limit. ::)

About your pistons, I don't doubt they're Honda, I see a numerical marking there on the side, much like my 550 pistons.  Oh and a small rant - why the heck was the little notch for the circlips put at 12 o'clock on 550 pistons?  The pistons themselves are in the way!  I see those are set at 9.    Maybe I'm just doing it wrong, whatever.

Broshi, they are 750 pistons. 61mm machined tops to fit a 550. The marking on the side is a 300. common marking for the 69-76 cb750 pistons. here i found a set on ebay.

I really want to go with 61mm too, so I can get in right under 600cc.  I'm thinking getting them machined would be too costly, unless Soos did them.  He hasn't been answering my pm's unfortunately.

No, I have Pmed him for months without any reply.  :'(  Its sad because he was very helpful. But, i fortunatly found a set of his pistons and bought them as fast as i could. SOOOOOOO happy i found them. I was really considering the $600 set that dynoman sells or finding out what my local machine shop would charge to do a set for me. I just cant rebuild this motor with small over bore pistons.

Oh wow, I just looked at the Dynoman website! Very cool!  And very pricey.  Guess I shouldn't complain as no one else that I know of is offering high cr 550 pistons.

If your not following my motor build or the drama on the 4-1 yosh pipe thread here is an update for you. Motor is coming apart. Rockers are shot.

Chris mentioned in another thread that he was working on my pipe and its going to be a 4-4. Looking forward to pictures.
I have been having second thoughts on what color to do the frame and weather i should get plain or anodized aluminum rims. Its difficult for me to visualize what parts i want when i dont have my bike. I like the alloy but i dont want to have so much that the tank and seat get lost in all of it.

Get the anodizied rims, it will save you alot of polishing.  Regret not getting mine done before they were laced.;) :)

As for the frame, what other colours were you thinking of?  I'm going to try the chrome powder coat on the K3 for something different. ;D

Buchanans aluminum rims are not polished but i was thinking of possibly getting anodized black. As far as painting my frame i was thinking of doing a green with gold pearl and matching the tank paint to it. Or was thinking of doing candy red. My last option is black.

Like the concept ffj.  If you go with the black rims, how about a pin stripe in the frame colour.
