500 or 550?
« on: May 24, 2009, 01:54:53 PM »
Hi All
After a number of years of it collecting dust, I have started restoration of a bike I thought was a 550 but checked the frame number to find it is in fact a 72 500 with the motor from a 76 550.....Dilemma....Which badges should go on it??
A second question for the clever guys...I have a 750/4 with Lester wheels but want spoked wheels on that, will the Lesters fit the 500/550 without too much trouble, I have noticed that there is a difference in the brake plate milling. Any suggestions appreciated.
I daresay this is the first of many posts on this project, you guys were most helpful when I needed questions answered during the 750 project, keep up the good work.

Hi
I don't know about the Lesters, but put what ever covers you like.  Could put 500 on one side and 550 on the other.
You could measure and see how close they are.  Lesters are very cool.

Front lester yes easy rear will need mods to spacers and sprocket carrier
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).
