I wish I had been around for those days. Before Bernie Ecelstone started "fixing" what wasn't broken.

As a side note...I purchased a set of NOS Dunstal headers for my CB550. They came unopened, stuffed with a few pieces of news print (The Daily Telegraph) from Monday, May 17th, 1976. One of the pages happened to contain an article on the '76 Belguim Grand Prix. Niki Lauda won for Ferrari with teammate Clay Regazzioni finishing second. Jaques Laffitte finished third as Jody Schecter finished a seasons best fourth, in his six wheeled Tyrrel. Those were the glory days. The final years of the V10's during Schumacher's dynasty may come close, for modern standards.

Formula One is usually my Summertime obsession, but alas, we canceled our cable. Yeah for the internet.

Later,

Ryan

That summer of '71 I went to 3 GP's.
Monaco, French and German--Jackie Stewart won everything-in the Tyrell.
Ferrari was nowhere, but up close their cars had a rough, precise, hand made look to them.
I was able to get into the pit lane for the French and German GP's.
Security was fairly tight but I was up to the task.
Today I think it would be almost impossible to get around the security.
But the coverage on the tube and internet today is great !

pic below is the start of the French GP-with Stewart and the Ferraris of Regazzoni and Ickx

I wouldn't mind seeing some old tech.
No matter how fast or how far I rode, I couldn't leave her memory behind.

Is that a still from the film 'Chitty chitty bang bang'? There are some great early race sequences recreated for the opening scenes.
Some of the early GP cars were real monsters with aero engines fitted, like the Mercedes and FIATs. I think they could reach great speeds but steering and stopping them must have been  something else entirely! Brave men.

Chris,
Here's a 14 Liter Fiat (1904 I think) that was at Laguna Seca a few years back.

Amazing machine! That engine attached to ladder chassis with cart springs and chain drive to the back wheels! I was looking for some brakes but don't see any large drums front or back although I imagine engine braking is phenomenal with 14 litres. Must have been like driving a runaway horse. Thanks for the pics.
cheers Chris

I was on a mission.

from God? :)
It was either God or a little cutie back in the States that I planned on impressing
with my pictures.
I found out later that women don't care about stuff like that.
So it must have been God.
