Electrical Failure
« on: May 24, 2009, 05:24:37 AM »
I went out for a quick ride Wednesday evening about dusk, fortunately some nice guy in a Escalade Flashed his lights and yelled at me that my tail light was out. I shouted "thanks" and headed home. I will add a garage door light check to my getting ready to ride routine.

Turns out to be just a failed bulb.  ::)

I read the LED threads revealed by the the search function and still have a few questions.

Does the red LED 1157 replacement have enough side light to illuminate the license plate? (Auto Zone did not have a white LED 1157)

Do these replacement LEDs survive in the higher vibration application of a motorcycle?

Thanks

Mark

LEDs resist vibration way better than incandescent bulbs, in general.  Whether any particular LED replacement will hold up depends on the quality of it's construction, though.  The LED's themselves are not the weak point.

Most LED bulbs have a VERY narrow beam, that's why a lot of them have extra LED's pointed sideways.  Unless yours has these it probably won't illuminate the license plate very well.

You could get some of these:

Thanks Mystic.

That was my thought when I held the red LED 1157 bulbs, not much light available to shine through the clear bottom of the lens.

Nice to know you think they LED will be more durable also.
