OLD BIKE RIDE 7 - 2009 *video*
« on: May 25, 2009, 07:26:46 AM »
I've been making the video for the past few years... this year was absolutely great weather, bikes, people and anything else you might ask for on a ride through the mountains on ancient bikes.  BTW... plenty of SOHC4 content.   ;)  Can you spot them all?

Great job Heff. Thanks again. Looking forward to OBR8 on my freshly restored/rebuilt 75 CB900F.

Lots of SOHC4 locals that need to show up next year for this free and fun event.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Nice work on the video Geoff..

Have you ever considered trying out video production/development..rather than landscaping (?) work?  Of course the market for motorcycle videos seems decidedly more limited than landscaping...

I have to admit personally that while I appreciate seeing all the old bikes..that I still prefer Japanese bikes (well maybe the Limey bikes too..Vincents..Triumphs..etc.) compared to all the rest. Other than Beemer..with their shoe-box 4's..the "Nihon 4's" just take the cake for me.  And shots of bald headed guys with tattoos and coveralls..not my cup of "ocha" if you catch my drift.  But I really appreciate your love and dedication to bikes in general.

To me @ times..there seems to be a foggy distinction between just funky old bikers with a need to demonstrate testosterone levels..and those that perhaps choose to consciously ride/be involved with motorcycles for more "transcendent" purposes.   Having seen the former way too much I feel..growing up in the heart of Hell's Angels country (and being too old nowadays to really be able to do much about that stuff..even if I wanted to anyway)..I  gravitate more towards the kinder, gentler "you meet the nicest people" mentality of Honda and the Japanese bikes.

BTW: you may remember my recent Email to you about the new sushi restaurant in Lyons (Sushi Matsuri..303-823-0505..whom I'm plugging for here)..and well within the riding turf in your video.  As a suggestion (for the umpteeth time it seems)..I was thinking that for those of us wanting to venture out of our culturally bound boxes somewhat..it may be fun to stop there sometime for beer/sake' and sushi sometime..so desune' (that's possibly true?).

Ja..mattane (then..until later),

Hey Al,

You shoulda been there with us. You're bike is too "new" to not show off a little. As far as sushi goes, I have this mental picture of a 100' long tape worm. Key word being mental  ;)

It's been on repeat on my garage DVD player for the past two days.  It's a great substitute for when it's been raining for three days straight!

Nice work Heff! :) :)

Thanks Jerry..

Yeah.. I wish I could have been there.  I miss riding with you guys (even though you guys won't get off my case about riding @ 45..when the rest of you were doing 60).  Beers, tattoos, bald heads..I feel we're all brothers.  I just like to get on my high horse sometimes..about the fact that I've ridden basically Hondas for the past 35 years.

Hey..about tape worms, et al..a real simple way to get over that! Just ask if they've frozen the fish beforehand (most sushi restaurants do)..or ask for the stuff cooked.  That's what I do.  And I think your concerns are valid (seeing that we're both "docs" of sorts).  But I usually put my implicit trust in the chefs in Japan (well almost)..when I'm eating sushi.   Hello Jerry..you've got to get out of that strictly Kentucky country boy cuisine sometimes (awful good..but somewhat limited @ times).

Let's some of us "brave souls" get together sometime for Japanese food and beer (doesn't necessarily have to be sushi..as you know from your soiree' in Japan).  If we can only get Heffay and Gordon to "ride and dine" (any one else here)..with us old faarts..

I'm actually going to Japan in June..be back mid July (first time there in over 5 years!)..but am open to whatever..after that.

Cheers,

Al / Ichi

thanks for the compliments guys... and yep, Al, I've considered trying to make a go of it.  I had a big ride last year that was offering a bit of money then obviously cash from sales.  It started raining and raining and raining so I decided not to go on that one.  Everyone had hotel rooms while I kindof missed the boat and would have been tenting it or crashing in someone's hotel room which I wasn't really into.  (at least with people I'd never met)  I also have concerns about 'borrowing' music and legality issues.  Buying music rights for things like this can get really expensive!

sushi sounds good... without the fish.   ;)
just gimme some wasabi and I'll be fine.
