Im talking about the screw that strips really easily, That connects the cable to the wheel

I didn't even get to strip it, that was already done for me..

sadly its now lost so im having trouble looking for a replacement

using the search function i could only find out "It's a panhead 5mm X 25 mm" any one know the thread size or any replacements from the hardware store that would work?

What model bike? On the 750 the parts list says 5x15 and it is still available from Honda.

I should specify that the parts list I looked at covered the K0-K2. Can't swear it didn't change after that, but I would try to search a fiche and try ordering from a Honda dealer or Hondapartsdirect or someplace similar.

Just for fun how did you get it out?? Have two bikes that are stripped before I could get to it(or do it myself!!!!). When I recently changed a front tire on one I had to wrap the speedo cable inside the rim spokes. Did you drill off the head?? and is there enough left to get a grip??

i tried to make dremel a slice into it for a flat screw driver, which didn't work but with the edge of the cut i could tap it out with a hammer and a flat head

You know what works every time for me with that screw...even if it was chewed up...get yourself an impact driver. You will use it on more than just that screw. This comes in very handy when removing the stator cover, tranny cover and clutch cover. When mine was chewed up I used a Dreml to make new grooves and it came out the first time.

If you buy from a hardware store, just make sure you get the correct pitch - likely to be 1.25 (so 5M1.25x15)

I used one of these: http://www.aldn.com/prograbit/ to extract the screw. Mine was rounded out very badly, but apparently there are cheaper ones out there. I took the old screw to Home Depot and the guy there found a replacement by tracking down a nut to fit it.

Is it the screw that's stripped or the hole? I've had the threads in the hole break out (not a lot of thread in there) when I tried to remove a stuck screw with an impact driver. Can't helicoil it either because it will prevent the cable from going in. But its hard to believe that the screw stripped.

You found someone who actually helped you and came up with a rational solution. I am sure they will be discharged shortly.

I was afraid to use the impact driver until I read this post. For years I have been removing the cable from the speedo when removing the front wheel.

Works everytime for me Bobby. I do not think it can be put in that hard that the impact driver can not get it out. I have not had one rusted in place yet.

The last two bikes I worked on my impact driver just rounded out the screw head until there was nothing to grip on. Ended up drilling both of them out. Did I mention I hate PO's?

Use the impact driver but dont hit too hard as i have seen the speedo gearbox broken by that as its not supported

Before I used the impact driver I used a Dremel to cut deeper grooves into the screw for the impact driver to get a better bite. Just be sure your driver is set to turn in the correct direction.

I broke my original speedo gearbox with an impact driver. Luckily replacements are available, but it was one of those "shoulda" moments.

If screw is realy bad remove speedo drive box and place back of screw on a wooden block before attacking the screw

I welded a washer on, then a nut. I let the heat soak in and the nut/washer/screw cool a bit, then it just turned right out.
