So after much searching and much frustration I have decided to anoy the masses with this thread.

First the rules......

How the hell am I supposed to find a decent chain kit for a 35 year old bike. Half the links in the faq dont work. z1 seems to be a dead end, along with dennis kirk, and every other damn place on the interweb. I just want to buy a damn 530 non o ring, 102 link 46 X 17 sprocket and chain set from the same damn supplier is that to much to ask!!!!!!!!!!!

lol, I guess it would help my cause to look in the manuals and figure out what type of chain I have. With my current knowledge, my best chance would be to search sites looking for 'CB550 F drive chains'

Kudos to anybody who happens to know the technical specs for a '76 550F chain off the top of their heads!

Look on the Cycle-re-cycle website under "Drive Parts" and then under "Sprockets for Hondas".  It lists the stock sprocket and chain sizes.

and for 550s, beware the 530 o-ring. the truth is out there. i believe.

verify your sprockets, don't just order the "correct" chain....

Iam currently trying one of these chains for this season, 750 miles later ( zero problems) looks to be wearing just fine i will post a thread at the conclusion of this riding season.

I use www.bandcexpress.com - they have loads in stock and will also machine one off sprockets if you want to switch to a 520 for example....

Not to be a thread jacker here, but, what years on the 750s came with 530 & 630? I don't see that anywhere in the FAQ? Or anywhere else on here? My 75 750k had a 530 already. Anyone know?

yes honda did, anything else before that was a 530. A 630 was used since back in the day, chains were not as strong as they are now.

Hmm, I'm looking to replace the chain & sprockets on my project 550F and would like to switch to 520 so I can run an O-ring chain without the much discussed clearance issues.  Do you mind telling me the sprocket & chain make/model #s so I can just get my local shop to order them in?  Thanks!

for a stock ratio? they may both exist in off-the-shelf form, but when i did mine a couple years back, i just worked with rebel gears. as i recall, they made me one, and matched it with an existing "in stock" item to give me the desired stock ratio. painless and affordable.

Here's a sprocket "opportunity".   One of the members is having 48 tooth 530 rear sprockets made to have similar specs to the now-discontinued Honda version.
