Carb question
« on: November 05, 2005, 09:25:52 AM »
Well, I let the Yamaha carb cleaner sit in the bike for good 10 hours, and it didn't improve it any further. I guess I will have to manually clean the slow jets. I was wondering though, if it's possible to just take the carbs out, and get to those jets without taking everything apart? This would be a good learning experience for me, without having to take apart/put back 100s of little pieces...

Might as well do it right the first time, otherwise you'll be doing it again, and again, and again.  It's really not that difficult.  You don't need to separate the carbs, or even get into the top section where the slides and needles are accessed.  Just take off the bowls, remove all the jets and float vavles, clean them and all the passages in the carb bodies and blow compressed air through everything.  That's it!  If you take your time and do it well, you hopefully won't have to do it again. ;)

gordom is right
ya don't have to separate them, just do like he said. you DO need to separate them if you're gonna soak them in some carb cleaner for some time(the carb cleaner will melt rubber)
