CB 400 SF in Spain
« on: May 28, 2009, 08:49:11 am »
Hello everybody. I am not sure to be in the right place, but maybe someone can help me.
My name is Marie, I live in Barcelona, Spain.
I bought a few weeks ago a CB 400 SF from 2001. It was imported from Japan, as this bike doesn’t exist in Spain. I have been looking for her several months, and at the end  I get it. But I don’t find any technical information about this bike, no work book in English or Spanish. I think your web page is about older CB with different motors, but I hope you may help me to find information about my bike.
I want to find some frame sliders for her too, as I am a woman and her weight maybe, I hope not, can with me, especially when I park her, but in Spain, impossible to find this.
Well, I am not sure to explain me well, but all information and help about this bike will be welcome.
Thank you !!!!
Marie

Welcome Marie....

Sorry I don't have an answer to your question.

I do know that many of that type were imported to Australia etc.....

There seems to be an aftermarket there for the 400....

Hi Marie,

The CB400 is a great bike and I rode one (VTEC engine) in 2006 when I was last in Japan - also great for on the highway. I am back in Japan now so I can be of any help let me know. I see them everywhere here - very popular bikes.

cheers

ecosse is a bit slow. i missed the 's' in sf,  and the '2001' in 2001. :-[

a quick google and i'm on track. looks like a cool bike. i assume they've never been offered in the 'states. typical.

i believe we have at least one other member from spain.

Hello
Thanks to all for your welcome.
My English is not so good but I will try to do the best to understand and communicate with everybody.
For now I leave you those photos for my CB 400, and one of my other bike. Honda 250 VTR, 1998. A small but very funny bike, I had a lot of fun with it, and still keep it.
El Vtech is surprising at the beginning, I feel like having 2 bikes in one….. In low revolutions the bike goes slow and it feels a little bit heavy, after 6500 revolutions it looks like the small plane…. The sound changes completely and the bike takes good velocity very quickly. I am very happy with it.
I will go to register one ladies bikers post ;-)

Andy, you may spoke or writed too fast..... ;D
In fact maybe you can help me.... I am looking for the owner manual and work book, but no way from here...this only problem is that I don't speak or read Japan... do you think we may find this in Japan but in English, or better in French or Spanish…....and for the 2001 model ???
It will be great !!!
If you can't look for it, don't worry, I don't want to abuse of your hospitality.
Bye bye.

Ecosse,
This bike is not imported in Europe by Honda. We don't have 400 cc in Europe.... or very fews,  but a guy in the south of Spain use to buy every two monthes a container from Japan with used bikes, he makes some competition preparation and sells a few ones. We get together 3 persons in Barcelona to buy some of his bikes, so the guy bring us the bikes to Barcelona (about 1000 km from his place)and I bought him one as I was looking for this 400 cc a long time.

Haha probably  ;)

Nice photos of the bike!...as for getting a non-Japanese manual here...not much chance here as why would they produce a foreign language manual for a bike that wasnt being exported...however Ill ask my Japanese biker friends just in case....

Here are some pics of the bike I rented in 2006...

The last pic shows my friend Yuris old bike - she is 5`3! She now has a Vmax (again).

cheers

;D i actually considered that might be too obscure.

sharp is good, yes. i don't know where the phrase originated but imagine it means something is striking/ remarkable, or memorable to see.

It sounds like the same situation as the bikes imported to Australia.

Its what we call a "Grey Market" import.

What that means is that the factory never officially imported the bike....instead they were all imported by individuals.

A little searching turned up this on Ebay in the UK:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CB400-CB-400-SF-SUPERFOUR-CB-1-CB1-W-SHOP-MANUAL-CD-ROM_W0QQitemZ300318187969QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarParts_Vehicles_Manuals_Litterature_ET?hash=item45ec5be1c1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

Its for the CB 400 SF but doesn't cover the VTEC engine.

Thats a ZXR1200 if I recall correctly. Good for 2-up as well (she was driving!). However, she prefers the Vmax as likes the raw power better.

Where do you ride? Mostly city or also long distance trips?

cheers

Thanks Kghost for the manual. Yes in fact it looks that this manual is not for the Vtech model. But maybe it can help....
As you tell those importations are what we call here “parallel importations”, and they are done by particulars or small bike shops. It is a way to get a different bike not possible with the official importations, but most of the time, it is more expensive without a good guaranty….. but if you really know what you want, it can be a good way.
But I thought that the CB4040 was official importation to Australia as the last model appear in the Australian Honda web page, or maybe I didn’t understand it well……

Ecosse, fine, I think I understand the “sharp bike”. For sure in Spain it is memorable bike, as they are very few in the country, and with those colors, mine is the only one.... my husband painted it for me....

Andy, your friend rides big and nice machines. I don’t think I will be able to ride a 1200 cc or maybe just for roads and highways, but for a city like Barcelona too heavy for me…..
I ride in the city every days to go to work or whatever I have to do…and for week end or holidays I travel with her. Last summer I go to France and have a very nice trip thought the mountains and country side, realized about 1600 km in 15 days. And use to make short trips to in Spain. My husband has a BMW 650 cc. and sometimes comes with me.
See you !!!

Hi Marie,

They do import them now.....

Previously there were license restrictions with regard to CC's and engine size....

They have since upped the Engine displacement on the learner and beginner licenses.

I take it you need the VTEC manual?

Ok Kghost, I see. In Spain as the license goes diferent way, 400 cc is not interesting for the market. When we get the license, we have to drive two year a bike with 34 cv maximum, and after two year you can drive what ever you want, like 160 cv bike...so people get first or 250 cc bike or 650 cc limited to 34 cv, and after two years take off the limit.
Personally, as I think for me it is enought with the 53 cv,  didn't want 100 cv bike. I look for the 400 cc long time before find it.

Yes I look for a VTEC manual... but it seems dificult to find...
I enjoy the VTEC, upper 6500 revolutions, the bike is completly different and looks like a smal plane. Very funny !!!
