I would also be interested in a modern caliper piston for a 78F 750. Could also be made from ceramic or phenolic material as well for a much lighter piston...

Watching this thread closely.

Yup - get one from Phil Denton engineering at www.phildentonengineering.com - he might need an old one to copy but you'll get an awesome replacement :-)

the diameter is a solid 1.500 if i miked it right, i made one for mine out of stainless, works great... i could probably do another one, but i'm sure a machinist with a better lathe could give you a better deal

You should buy phenolic piston,it's much lighter than stainless(and no rust). That's what i did(i have two calipers on my k4)and i'm very happy ;)

I forgot to say it's cheaper too ;D

Hey Geeto,

I make pistons out of Aluminium, stainless for the K models, can make them for the F as well but the price including posting is rather high(er).

Cheers, Rob

I had a machine shop make all three for my bike for about $150.  The machinist does not have to cup the piston like the original but if they put a lip on it, it will work fine and act just like stock.  I omitted the lip on my pistons and they work great just the same.

something tells me if I can't find stainless for this bike without it being a custom order than Phenolic is going to be much harder to locate.

I have used stainless and phenolic pistons in a lot of my earlier k and f bikes but right now I have an f with rusty pistons and rather than put steel back in I was hoping for a quick upgrade.

My friend had mine rebuilt and they used a SS piston. Probably was intended for some sports car.
