Classic Bike Scene In Indiana
« on: May 27, 2009, 06:46:40 PM »
Just curious as I am probably gonna get transfered to Fort Wayne in the up-coming months. We have been down the past couple weeks looking for a house and was I curious as to local bike hang outs and what the classic/cafe {not sport bike} scene was like.

Thankyou Dennis. On a side note,I feel your pain on the sky light. I have been up on my parents roof twice this year and a couple of other times last year. I thought I had it licked, but the large amounts of rain we have had here in S.E. Mich. this year has done its toll of damage. Now it is time for the pro's.

Yeah I am at my wits end...but necessity is the mother of invention...or in my case lack of cash is the mother of half assed repair attempts!! lol

Funny thing is when we did the house inspection I asked the inspector to double check the skylights and he said they were fine. Ofcourse he also missed the electricals issues etc etc....

anyways, sorry about the thread jack! Good luck with your info search!

I am in Fort Wayne, not much of a classic bike scene here, but there are a few of us in town with some.  What part of town are you headed toward?

Hunter Town is where we would like to be,or anywhere that the city hasnt annexed yet. The taxes are higher in the Fort Wayne district but dont even come close to what I currently pay. North Allen County Schools are a plus as we have a 3 and a 5 year old. We have been down the past couple months looking at houses, and currently have a offer pending,we are waiting on their bank to approve. My wife has family all over the area so she is jacked! Hopefully this Fort Wayne crew could meet at Sonics on 3 some Sat or Sun afternoon for some grub and some riding. We were down a few weeks ago and there was a car show with a few bikes,I couldnt talk the misses into stopping. We were a little wore out looking at houses all afternoon and the  kids were sleeping in the back of the truck.

Me too. How come we haven't met yet?  I'm near Stellhorn and Maplecrest.

I don't know that there is a local bike scene, last I knew the crotch rocket guys would hang out at the Taco Bell in Canturbury Green. that was years back, I don't know if they still do.
No matter how fast or how far I rode, I couldn't leave her memory behind.

Small world, I live 1 mile from that Sonics at Dupont/Lima.  We moved to the same area you are looking at for the same reasons 5 years ago.  The area is nice and the schools are great!  We were annexed last year, 1 whole square mile.  Let me know when you will be in town, I am always looking for an excuse to ride.

I have seen the sport bike crowd at that corner, I think they still congregate there.  I rarely see any nice old bikes out, it would be nice to though.
I am planning on riding to Mid-Ohio again, lots to see there!

hopterfixer I believe the addition we are looking in is Carol Oaks. I remember there being a in door racket club, and a drug store on the corner. The addition is behind the racket club and the house backs up to it. Very nice bike in your avatar, I love the color. I will definatly let you know{ PM} when we finally make the move. I too am always looking for a excuse to ride.

Yep, I run by there a lot, I live a mile or two away.  Your kids will go to the new elementary school they are building.  Good luck with the move.  When are you hoping to be settled here?

We are shooting for July at the latest. With school starting in Aug. we would like to be settled by then. If the offer falls through we will end up renting till we find a house. My father in law seen a house off Hand Rd. for rent just in case, and there was another one in town {Hunter Town} but as soon as he sent us the info,it had already been rented. We are keeping our fingers crossed ;D
