CB750 - Running with the points cover off
« on: May 28, 2009, 01:47:59 PM »
This is probably a really dopey question but not having owned or run a CB750 before I don't know this from experience....yet!  ;D

I want to run the CR750 up without the points cover on - I'm waiting for a custom spacer for the standard cover which could take weeks. In the interim I want to run up the engine to time it properly but as there's what looks like a tiny oil feed hole behind the advancer on the end of the crank, I'm wonderin gif it'll spray oil everywhere if I run without the points cover.

Any ideas?!  ???

Yeah....you can run it.

Oil in the points cover would be a bad thing...

Don't think I would run it in the rain that way.

That's a new one on me, are you sure you're not seeing the hole for the locating pin on the back of the advancer?

I have seen a CB350 run for a full race day with a points cover full of oil (leaking through the cam seal)! It had no effect whatsoever on the ignition. Just goes to show how bullet proof the points system can be once set up right (thats the painful part!).

Ah yes - but I'm running an advancer shaft but no mechanical advancer or points - all electronic ignition....but yes it'll be bullet proof once set  ;D

A little while back there were clear covers on eBay all the time, but I can't find any now.

Ebay seller xjoemamax.  I bought a clear and a blue one.  Nice parts.  Works on 550 and 750 at least.  Doesn't seem to currently have any listed.

Plastic.  I asked him what kind of plastic but never got a response.  He apparently molds these himself.
