GSXR Shims
« on: May 29, 2009, 11:14:50 AM »
Does anybody have valve shims for a 92-95 GSXR750W. It's a watercooled model.

Mine specifically is a 94. And I'm looking for 1.55 and 1.50 millimeter shims.

Or if any of you can point me in the right direction.... I'd be eternally grateful.

I just don't want to spend the $20 a piece from the dealer.

Also.... Should I really get plastigauges if I'm only replacing rod bearings? I'm lazy I know.  :-\

And that was the cheapest dealer price. I tried almost every gsxr forum in the world and everyone told me to get lost. Even www.gixxer.com where I am an established member.

Oh well. Got any ideas on the plastigauges? I'm being lazy I'll admit. I should probably just bite the bullet.

If its the plastigauge I'm aware of, for checking plane bearings on rods and cranks, a stick of it is $1.50, enough to do a few motors. ? Something else in mind?

No I'm just being lazy. I really had no intention of doing a "complete" rebuild on this motor but it's looking more and more like I have to. If I'm going to tear it down I might as well do a big bore kit and everything I would normally do. I just want to ride ASAP after I get a full bill of health. Call it spring fever if you will.

Also I am going to need 3 of each shim there PJ.

I'll be in work in about an hour and post when I get home (12.30~1.00am)
I haven't bought shims for a few years but $20.00 each seems real excessive (last ones I bought, in Britain, were 85 pence, about $1.70)
Maybe the sintered ones for RMZ/GSXR with titanium valves are more expensive but I think your motor has steel valves, its to old for Ti.

OK, I looked them up and they are trying to rape you.
Part number 12892-05C00-***  (fill in size, I looked up 150) are $3.40 dealer cost and retail at $5.66 for 93-95 GSXR750W.
Now you know and can tell them part number and/or complain to Suzuki
