Thinking of ordering a stainless bolt set...
« on: June 15, 2009, 11:40:04 pm »
I'm thinking of ordering a new bolt set for my 550 and I was checking out stainlesscycle.com

I think these look pretty good:

They're what I've seen on the 750's, but I'm not sure how they'd look on a 550. Does anybody have a photo or could take one of these installed? I'm really curious to see how they'd look before I buy 'em.

Thanks for any help

You'll have to use anti-seize on each bolt and they have lower torque values than the standard bolts.

They are much easier to work with then the JIS head screws that came out of the factory.  Once you start replacibg them, you will want to keep going!  I replaced my bowl screws and carb tops too!

I do have a problem with the tappet access covers binding aginst the hex heads though.

What I have read about the ones from stainless cycle is that they are complete sets, some other places don't do them all or sell them in multiple packages which mean multiple purchases.

I put a full set from stainlesscycle on my 750 three years ago, and would do it again in a heartbeat, if needed.

Whats teh price tag on that

www.stainlesscycle.com

The 550 polished set is $24.99 I think. Comes with like...84 fasteners. Pretty good price I think!

So no pictures yet? Where can I buy this anti-seize?

My real concern is how much they'll stick out on the crank case covers, and on the top of the cam cover. They look good on the 750 because thats what came stock from the factory right? And they are recessed in a little bit I think? I just remember seeing a lot of pictures of 750's with these hex screws.

To late, order already placed. They didn't seem very friendly in the emails I got anyway. I don't think they want to be bothered.

After several weeks of waiting for bolts from my normal source,Burk's Bolts,  I ordered for the first time from stainlesscycle.com. Their kit looks good and they shipped quickly. I filed a Paypal dispute with Burk's Bolts and am waiting resolution.

I just ordered one from Greg at Stainless Cycle.  Out of curiosity, does anyone know how this kit compares to the one sold by Cycle X.  Does the Cycle X kit ($77) include bolts for the entire bike, or just the engine like SC's?

I got a set from Stainless Cycle and they are very nice, not show quality, but nice. I mean they are 24 bucks so what can you expect, they are polished but some still had leftovers from having the bumps (knurls, sp?) removed. Don't get me wrong they are nice and worth every penny, but I am curious about the set from Cycle X, at $77 you'd expect they would be perfect.

$77 seems way expensive, I got the polished set for $24, and even though they aren't a perfect mirror finish, there really are A LOT of bolts, and I could easily buff them up myself...I haven't installed them all yet, but I did find that one of the crank cover bolts wasn't the same length as stock, so I guess I might be callin 'em up and tellin em the set isn't a perfect fit...
