That's awesome J5!  I don't know how bad it was with the mac can on there, but it really sounds nice now.   taking into account the looks of your bike, I can understand your quest for the right sound.  How's it sound out on the road going through the gears and decelerating?  And lastly the store you bought that tip from only has locations in 3 or 4 states... were there any markings on it showing the manufacturer maybe?  I might be inclined to try making one myself.

-Just found this thread, and you've inspired me to make my own muffler. I also have a Mac on my 550 and I hate the way it sounds; especially around 4000 rpm- sounds like it's coughing up a lung. It's the only thing on my bike that I don't like. Good job on yours man; it sounds really good. Hopefully whatever I come up with will make my 550 sound as good as your 750.

i tried IMing you but i guess since im new i cant. so anyway, im in the same boat as you, cb750 and i made/am still making a muffler from scratch and have the individual pod filters. i was wondering what size main jets did you go with and did you alter the pilot jets?

Hey Penny,

Sorry Im late with this reply. Havent been on a computer for a while.

Right now Im using a 130 main. It's a hair rich, which I'd rather have than lean. My plugs are dark tan. I have some 125 mains on order just to see the difference.

Needle raised to 4.5 spots (i used a shim to get it there).

Stock pilot jet, set 2 turns out.

thanks for getting back to me. ill probably use your carb set up for a starting point and see where it leads me. hopefully it will be right on the money if im lucky. after tons of reading ive seen any where from a 120 to a 138.5. so 130 seems like a good place to start.
