 Good info. I cleaned up a grease coated chrome one this week, I had to put it in a vise to hold it while I broke the nut and bolt loose and was surprised when it operated smoothly.

Kenny at Cycle X has suggested tapping the back of the adjuster for an M8 bolt that will do 2 things, act as a plug to keep water out and to keep the chain adjusted properly in the event of the set bolt coming loose. It will also keep you from having to go wild overtightening the set bolt and jam nut.

It will also keep you from having to go wild overtightening the set bolt and jam nut.

I had never considered this. If you use a long enough bolt you could add a jam nut as well. This could also function like the manual adjusters I've seen for sale. Just be very careful not to overtighten!  :o

Talk to Kenny about his thoughts on manual tensioners. He has convinced me to never use them. No one knows how tight is too tight and the stock one does a great job. I would use the bolt in the back as a stop, just barely touching the rod on the rubber foot to keep it from moving back, doing that only after the full adjustment procedure is done.

Agreed. NO TOOLS WHEN TIGHTENING BACKER BOLT!

I really don't think you need a back up bolt. Properly tightened it will not move. My little distributer rubber keeps all moisture out. I pull it off and give it a little WD40 squirt when I adjust it. Dan
