Engine reassembly bolt torque specs
« on: May 30, 2009, 05:59:29 AM »
Hi
I have a 76 750k. On my service manual bolt torque specs are for 6mm and 8mm. But
I have 10mm and 12mm bolts. I can't seem find it anywhere in this forum also.
Can someone point me to a link?

Additionally
The engine is missing a dowel pin. Between head and cylinder. It's the one with the
o ring. Can I reassemble without the pin?

Thanks

When you say you have 10 and 12 mm bolts are you talking about the wrench it takes? A 6mm bolt takes a 10mm wrench and an 8mm a 12 mm wrench. Aside from the general specs, the manual should list specific location torque values.

yes that is correct. In metric land, the bolt is identified by its shaft diameter, not the wrench size. So a 6mm bolt in your manual has a 6mm shaft. And most commonly a 10mm wrench.

The 8s are a little different in that it has an 8 mm shaft, and most commonly a 12 mm wrench if a Honda, but often a 13mm wrench if other brand.

The only 10s and 12s on a honda are motor mounts.

Oh the dowel, I wouldn't reassemble without it. It is for alignment purposes and not using it scares me.  Particularly it does double duty providing stability to the Oring

Take one of your "10mm" bolts and measure the shaft. Is it 10mm or perhaps 6mm? It's the same in standard. A 3/8 bolt isn't going to take a 3/8 socket...

Don't worry Dude, nobody else reads these posts anyway... ;D

Besides, there are plenty of us here who learned the majority of our bike know-how in these very forums and in the forums previous to these.
Read everything that interests you, as often as you can.  Read the Tips and Tricks section, and the Other Bikes section as well, you'll learn allot.
Lastly find some other members in your area, and get together once in a while for a few beers, or to turn wrenches, or to ride.
Make some memories, and don't sweat things.  We're all learning here.
