just got the movie in the mail a few days ago; tonight was my first chance to view it. well, it's about what i expected with the unique late 70's/ early 80's dated vibe. if that stuff bugs you don't bother with this one. it really was not nearly as hoaky as some better known flicks of this era, and i liked it.
some decent race footage although i wish there had been more. leading lady (christina raines) was tasty but there were so many american accents (not dubbed btw) i frequently had to remind myself this took place in england! i'm not jivin' you! even the anouncer for silverstone was american.
fwiw: "silver dream racer" is less the name of the bike and more the dream of winning at silverstone. that's my college brain at work folks.
also, i got this movie from an operation called
zarzars.stuff or americanvideoseekonk. my purchase was with the latter, but if you go to their store front it's the former.
anyway, if you're looking for a hard to get old movie give them a look. my order came in only a few days too.
oh, this bit of trivia about the lead bike came from comments found on
imdb.com message board.
"FYI- the "Barton" bike, although designed and (first) built in England, was a dismal failure on the GP circuit as the engine kept blowing up and it handled very poorly. Back in america in 1983, an enterprising young Motorcycle Racer and engineer for Harley Davidson- named Erik Buell, bought the rights, parts, and all the related equipment associated with production, and brought the whole deal to america. Erik then rebuilt and redesigned the bike top to bottom to make it reliable and FAST ! The Bike model was Renamed the RW750, the RW standing for Road Warrior as Erik Buell was a huge Mad Max fan, and Erik was going to race and sell these RW750's in america. But unfortunately as fate would have it, the 750cc Formula 1 class was dissolved just after Erik was putting the bike into production, and only TWO of the RW750's were ever produced. But the good news was, 1983 was the year that Erik founded the "Buell Motorcycle Co." and the rest as they say is history ! This year (2008), marks the 25th anniversary of Buell motorcycles.
