We would like to have a repeat of this street event:


NHL | Hockeytown celebrates Stanley Cup June 7 2008

The team estimated 1.4 million fans came downtown for the event, while the Detroit Police Department merely sized up the crowd at more than 1 million. Fans started gathering on Woodward Avenue early in the morning. The parade ended with thousands spilling into Hart Plaza for a rally.

The human mass stood seven or eight deep in most spots, with not a chunk of pavement to be seen along the route. Fans young and old flooded the avenue's sidewalks with red and white.

They came from across Michigan, Ontario and other locales, skipping work, missing school and just spending a day thanking their heroes for the enjoyment of the past season, and the two-month playoff run, in particular.

NOT THIS YEAR RED WINGS!

Way to go PENS. Fantastic game by both teams.

One more thing, the boos from the wings fans were embarrassing. Show some class like the Pens fans did last year and cheered for the Wings after they won the cup.

The only boos I heard were for bettman and he deserves them!!! There are always a few random boos from the drunks but for the most part wings fans are classy.

Seriously exciting game! I probably would have been acting like a mad man if my team was there. On a side note, any one else notice the 5+ F bombs after the game? NBC did a horrible job at snipping those out.

@upperlake: I thought I was hearing stuff the first one, then I realized all these players have a sailors mouth  :D I thought to myself. Man, if I just won the stanley cup. The last thing I would be doing is yelling F*#$ in front of millions people while skating around with the cup.

What really pisses me off is that the Wings were perfectly capable of thrashing the Penguins again this year, but didn't. Yeah, the Pens played like they wanted it more, but you can't help but wonder what else was going on...

I dunno.. I was just getting back into watching professional hockey after the strike, and now I read that the NHL ordered Detroit to quit doing the JoeVision away games (of which part of the proceeds went to charity) in order to force people to watch it at home to boost the ratings. That coupled with Gary Bettman's (a.k.a Pee Wee Herman) tinkering with the playoff schedule (so it wouln't "drag on" into the summer and steal ratings from his former, beloved NBA) has made me less interested.

CHRIS OSGOOD
A great playoff run and the Number One reason the Wings made it as far as they did. Unfortunately missed his chance to stand at the top of the world with Conn Smythe.

BRAD STUART
It will be a long summer for him as he will unfairly be the whipping boy for naysayers. Hockey is a team sport and an outcome should not be reduced to one....or two....plays.

NBC, VERSUS
Made my s@#$ list for failure to televise National Anthem, instead showing commercials.
Thankfully we have CBC, Canadian TV broadcasts US Anthem.

Congrats to Penguins and fans.

I'd go for a ride on my CB but its going to rain all day here.....appropriate.

After game 5 I would have expected so much more from the wings. I figured this whole game would have been played like the last 10 minutes were.

  A mike on certain players during the traditional handshake at the end of the game would be interesting. From what I understand, this class act that shows respect for your opponent after a balls to the wall series is unique (maybe rugby too) to our sport and is one of the reasons why hockey is the Greatest Game on Earth.

agreed, I am disappointed at NBC for not keeping the camera on certain handshakes, they seem to want to move through them too quickly. I wanted to see  Babcock and Bylsma, Crosby and Zetterberg, Hossa and Crosby, Malkin and Datsuk. etc.

Head wings coach told Crosby he did a great job being a leader that year while they were shaking hands. I don't what you guys are talking about, the wings and fans were VERY hungry for the win. They dominated most of the game and played just about the entire game in the penguins end. The thing that killed them were just a few mistakes, which just about every game has. IMO the penguins were doing exactly what they needed to do and didn't make a single mistake. I don't know where they got all the confidence to pull it off with such a young team. The hawks would have had a harder time in that position I think.
