Would You Hot-Rod a 69 750 motor?
« on: May 30, 2009, 10:32:38 PM »
I would really have to think hard about cutting a set of early cases for bigbore.

But I found a set that was already cut & not sandcast, so it looks like the plan.
Will know soon if the cases are ready to run, I am thinking it would be cool to build a 900 or bigger. I only got the botton end, but have an early bigbore topend

I will have to put it in a later frame, for now. I been thinking it would be cool to ride to the salt flats this year on a 69 motor, 40th anninersary and all.

From what I can see it was a 1080, and had alum Yoshi rods, well 3 are left with pistons.

So do you think its a good plan or, am I tempting fate?

Jay, I will try to make it to Bub in Sept.

I made it to 07 and 08, I like it because it is all bikes and I think a bit easier to find a place to stay, etc. Also at least 2 locals are running their bikes on the salt, and aiming for records.

I wont be competing on the Salt, the ride there though is a great end to the summer.

Its the 4O th year of the 750, I hope we can get a few  to show up this year.

I take it Ack Attack will be there, cool  streamliner that one..

I found out they have run drags at the airport in I asked in the LSR forum if anyone was interested in Night drags there (maybe 1/8 mile). A lot of the racers  got pissy saying they are too beat after a day on the salt. But a few other did mention they liked the idea. I think it could make an even better bike week, and bring out more people. I wasnt suggesting that the salt bikes be run, so much as spectator bikes or some of the bikes that are going to the Vintage GP at nearby Miller (Fri -Sunday of same week) or a few drag bikes brought in.

Last year we went by truck, on Fri we were on the Salt till past noon, saw a bit of practice and the bikes at Miller in the afternoon, caught the awesome Night Drags in SaltLake City till after midnight then drove home all the way to BC ( over 1000 miles :o) As we neared home we went past our local strip which was open, but we were a bit tired by then.

Jay is doing my cylinders with a 900 kit. I'm also getting a 1000 kit from Jay. Thank you very much Jay. I plan on putting the 900 kit in my 75 750F since I don't have to open the upper case with serial number 1001954. I'm saving the 1000 for the 78 750K engine since that case will have to be cut. The serial number on this is irrelevant to me. In your shoes since it isn't a sand cast, yes, I would cut it.

Can you guys post some links to Bonneville, Miller's, and Bub(?) ? Sounds interesting. Hope the dates don't conflict with plans.

Jerry, cases are already cut..
good for me, but not so good to restore.

I am assuming I could run 836 if I desired, with no greater chance of leakage than a bigger sleeved motor?

I guess I could not run  the Orings .

Aren't all good plans simply successful attempts of tempting fate?

Sounds like a goal IMO.

Let us know if you go to the salt flats!!
Would love to watch you run.
Heck, if I lived closer to the flats, i'd offer a place to stay.

Poke around here for Bonneville info  http://www.scta-bni.org/

Our involvement with the Ack Attack and the worlds all time motorcycle speed record is truly a highlight for us.

This year there will be a new challenger. An electric motorcycle that hopes to become the world's fastest motorcycle, and also the world's fastest electric vehicle.

Bonneville is an experience every gear head should do at least once in his life.

I have a K0 that is already at 812 but have been thinking about the same: Bigger.

Question is: How Bigger??

The case holes are at 77mm or so.
so I can throw any bore kit made into this one. Had 1080 in it. :o
Looks like the rod took out the front web in the top case, I am thinking this is more inconvenient than a real problem, not sure if it can be tacked in or is crucial to oil or  breathing functions.

I will start another thread about the rods & other parts.

Question is: How Bigger??

Only depends on what you have or what you can find PLUS anything bigger than 836 should have some new rods. 900 and up is where we start talking some serious cash. Be ready. About the only new big kit available now is Jay's 1000 plus Dynoman lists one also. I'll be able to show off one of Jay's soon.

Now if you wait long enough I might be able to supply a NOS 1080 kit with lined/bored ready to go cylinders or my current 812 Yoshi kit. One of these days I'll unload all my leftovers. The 1080 (73.75mm pistons) cylinders apparently were bored for the drag strip with .005" clearance. The way I figure it a 900 and a 1000 ought to just about do me  ;)

I am Ok on barrels.
I will either go 836 cc or 970cc, will have fresh pistons for those in the next 2 weeks, have new sleeves as well but will have to prep a  cylinder.  Also have 970cc barrels ready to bore to 1000cc without pistons,so I should be good..

If I use 836, I may not end up ising my Crower rods, if I go bigger I will use them.
