Topic: Pics on this site crash my computer

I hope this is the place for this. I love this site, and learned a lot since signing on, but it's giving my ancient computer fits. Every time I click on a thread with pics it partially loads then locks up. No other site does this. I really need a new one but I'd like to use this in the meantime. I got an old Gateway with win 98, explorer upgraded to 6.0 I think. Help! I'm a lot better at working on bikes than these damned things.

oh yea,one more thing,when i had win 98,mine did that too.if you can find a copy of win 2000 that will help you at least for the time beiing.

The computer that I usually use to access this forum is my desktop with win98. I have not had a problem with the pictures here crashing or freezing the computer. Sometimes thay will not display correctly, but they have not caused any crashes that I can recall.
I must admit however that it does work better on my laptop - XP home.

im not a computer guru by no stretch,just seems like a memory issue to me.

Can't understand what's wrong with your computer. I'm using my trusty Sinclair ZX Spectrum and it goes ligthing fast!!!!!

you re probably having a browser issue. But it could be memory too. clean out your temp files and cookies first. then click start and go to run. type in msconfig and click ok.

There will be a startup tab, go to this and see how many thing are in here. If you have 10 or more than this is likely to be the source of your trouble. Everything that is checked in here loads at startup and takes up memory. You can generally uncheck most everything just leaving only essential drivers and virus programs running.

Why? You never asked what I did for a job.  When I ran win98, I did numerous tweaks and never had a crash. 98 is good but needs a little love sometimes.
