My brother shared this one with me. Apparently the old Ducati's are notorius for their kickback! I don't find my SOHC much better!

I can attest to the truth of this  -  I had a 1975  Ducati 860GTS on which (like all the Dukes' at that time) had absolutely Cr*p electrics, so K/starting was the preferred method of moving it along...Me being 5foot 6inches, and 147 lbs soaking wet, I had to damn near stand on the seat, then aim my right foot at the k/s pedal and jump on it - most times I made it, but when I got it wrong....Oh Boy!!

Wow, that sounds as bad as my 66 CL77 scrambler, before I had to tear the engine back down.  *mumbling to self about getting around to putting it back together someday*

Gee, my starter does not kick very hard at all. Very smooth to use. Maybe I just have enough tonnage!

As far as kickstarting and kickback, I'm rather impressed by the kickback a Yamaha XS11 can make.  1103 cc four banger with a kickstarter seems to be the near equal of a catapult on occasion.  :)

Haha!
This happened about 25 years ago but I remember it like it happened yesterday.
Had a `61 Sporty and just got done rebuilding it , Man that thing had some compression! Anyway I pull in to a gas station and filled her up when 2 hot hot hot babes in a convertible pull up to get gas at the pump behind me.This was back when you didn`t see many HD`s in Germany so yea they were ogling the bike.
Not being in the right frame of mind at the moment,I wasn`t too careful and kicked it over only to be thrown off and go headfirst into the gas pump. And no I didn`t have my helmet on yet. Ouch!!
I used to tell people , if you can start it you can ride it ;D
That`s also the reason my `59 has been converted to electric start. ;)

Dusterdude is stalking you!  I swear every time you write anything he has a reply.  My 225lb (hardbody) kicks my K8 like a mule, so I dont even turn on the key until that K8 slows down at the stop sign. :D

These wonderful little birds are great flyers, delicious eating, excellent for training your hunting dog, and just fun to shoot,or stuff and keep around the house.  Bobwhites can be put with other types of Quail and have very large penis's.  Quail are very popular with the babes.

Boys

i never had trouble kicking my SOHC over but then i grew up riding an M21 600cc BSA Single.  The starting procedure was as follows,  Retard spark then kick over slowly to find TDC, then lift decompression lever to take exhaust valve off seat ( otherwise you can't kick the bike) and kick like crazy and release decompression lever.   Repeat 4 or 5 times as required.  Advance  spark on magneto when motor is running.

I love the idea that I can just hit the starter button on the Honda!

I don't want it to go like a motorcycle, I want it to go like a rocket!

A buddy told me about the time he saw a kid buy a new Harley Sporty. When he went to the dealer to pick it up, he was wearing shorts and flip-flops. On the first kick, it kicked back, throwing his bare heel against the chrome shock/spring cover. He said it was like a meat grinder... :P

Never had a problem with kickback. I just push that little button and drive away.   ::)

My CB550 does not kick back in the least.  I kick it down and it will stay down (with my foot on it) while I pump the throttle to get it going.  Now I am wondering if something is wrong with my bike.
