carb needle jet question
« on: May 31, 2009, 02:50:14 PM »
Hello everyone out in internet land, i have a question.

Yesterday i got my 1976 cb750 to run after 26 years of sitting. Had to replace the points and condensers and with a little starting fluid, the beast fired right up. ;D :D ;D :D No smoke at all, but the #2 carb was overloading with fuel and i had raw fuel coming out the exhaust pipe.

After taking the carbs off i discovered the "needle jet" was missing. I didnt catch this when i did a cleaning on the carbs about 2 months ago.

Question is.....Where can i find just a needle jet? Not a jet needle.

Do you mean a float needle?

The one the float acts on?

They come in a rebuild kit for the carb.

If you mean the needle that goes in the slide of the carb.....

They come in the rebuild Kit too....

nope none of those, its the part that the jet needle slides through. There is a main jet, then the jet holder, then the "needle jet". This is what the jet needle slides though... Hope that makes since. Has nothing to do with the float.

I am guessing you mean emulsifier tube ...

The needle jet and jet needle come as a set(from Honda) Not sure about aftermarket ones.. I wouldn't think those would make the carb belch fuel from the overflows, providing the float level is correct, but it'd run excessively rich without either of those parts, and may explain why there is raw fuel coming out the pipe.

I have found two sources in my Honda adventures to be able to sell individual parts.

www.siriusconinc.com and www.hondaparts-direct.com

I find that sometimes Sirius Consol Inc. doesn't have the part listed on their website, but a phone call to them generally results in success :) you can find their eBay listings, but their prices are generally better when you deal with them directly. I sometimes look through their eBay store and then call them.

http://hondaparts-direct.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?section=123209&category=Motorcycles&make=Honda&year=1976&fveh=2945

I hope that helps.

Thanks everyone for the imput. Doing more research i do believe that the part im looking for does come with the jet needle. its a set according to the honda website.

The "needle jet" actually goes above the Emulsion tube when all installed.  It allows the right amount of fuel to come up when the throttle is pushed and the jet needle rises up though the carb. If that makes since.

Im hoping the local Honda shop has this part in stock so i dont have to order it.  ::) doubt it.

Did you take out the emulsion tube/main jet? My needle jet was also missing, but it had just become loose and fell into the main jet "tube". I had to press pretty hard to wedge that bastard back in.

Yeah i took the tube and jet out...nothing... I guess the person who had the bike before me 26 years ago lost it.

I ordered a new jet needle set/kit today at the Honda shop. Of course not in stock... will be in Thursday.

Thanks for all the help guys!
