Trying to put my exhaust back on...split keepers?
« on: June 02, 2009, 01:34:18 pm »
When I took off the exhaust I never took pictures because I assumed they would be easy to put back on the bike...now uh, I can't seem to figure out how to get them back on. My clymer is telling me to tighten the nut on the footpeg finger tight, then put on the split keepers and exhaust flanges. How exactly is this done? The split keepers don't fit over the collars of the exhaust. They fit in the holes in the cylinder head, and they fit the pipes themselves...Should I be coating these in grease or something?

Ok I know rusty side was probably exposed so I should flip these around? Don't they have to go into the holes in the cylinder head?:

From your picture it appears you have them in backwards. Flaired end goes against exhaust collar, straight end pushes against ridge on header.
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame
