Bike won't go Backwards
« on: June 03, 2009, 06:51:28 am »
Just about finished rebuilding a 76 Honda CB 750 F.  With the bike clearly in neutral I can roll forwards with ease but can only go backwards about 2 feet then she binds up somewhere and stops.  Even with the clutch lever compressed same deal.  Any ideas!  Doesn't appear to be the rear wheel.

When you say it doesn't seem to be the rear wheel, does that mean you have put it on the center stand and tried spinning the rear wheel in reverse and all is OK?

No centerstand otherwise I would have tried turning just the rear wheel.  I will put her up on blocks tonite and see what happens.  Frustrating to have been on this project for 6 months and now i can't get out of the garage!  Hopefully it is just the brake binding and not another issue.

I knew it was something retarded.  How about a 6 mm nut sitting quietly on the chain!  That would certainly stop a bike from going backwards!

Those nuts like to do that. Happened to me once. I thought I totally 'busted' the transmission until I noticed that sucker! ha ha ha

I've seen it happen when kickstart gears/return spring isn't correctly assembled
