Speedometer, tach needles waving around
« on: June 03, 2009, 08:18:38 am »
At lower speeds they're fine bu up at 50 or over the needles bounce around. Is there a tuneup I can give these puppies to quieten them down? 1970 CB750 K0

Coincidentally, i just posted this:  http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=52531.0

(Assuming the cables are OK)

The bouncing needles comes from drag. Old instruments accumulate crud from condensation cycles and lose original lubrication from gravity. They can be tuned up, but it requires disassembly. It can be done by yourself, many here have done it.

I know my limitations.

I have seemed to fix this problem a few times.............Disconnect the cables..........get some cable lube that is applied with a long needle........squirt a small amount into the clock.  Check to see if it helps after a few miles.  TIP.....do not store or work on your clocks with the face down.  This will allow the lubricant to drain and stain those precious faces.
