Windjammer mount - 79 CB650
« on: June 03, 2009, 09:17:27 AM »
Anyone know if a 750 mount will work on a 79 650?  I'm having a horrible time finding one for my 79 650.

Not directly.  I picked up a Windjammer off a 750 for my '81 CB650 and the issue is that the frame spacing is slightly different between the bikes, the 650 being narrower (from memory so don't hold me to this).  However, it's a simple weldment so it looks like it won't be a big deal to cut off the "half tubes" that mate up to the frame off and have them re-welded.  At least that's my plan when I get sometime in my next life.  Meanwhile the jammer sits quietly in the garage bothering no one.  :(

If you go to the source www.craigvetter.com he talks about the mounts and how they were constructed, and how to correctly position the fairing on your bike if you need to make your own mount.  If you do modify or fabricate a mount to fit your bike, maybe you should make a few...they'll sell if they're that hard to find.

I have no welding tools, skills, or supplies, so I won't be fabricating one.  I could try to modify and existing one though and pay someone to move/weld the half tubes to fit my frame.

Pit Monkey,
If you ever gets yours on there, would mind posting some pics of it?

OldRusty,

Sure thing, although it will be after I change the cylinder gaskets to keep the oil in its proper place.

Thanks.
I got a long way to go on mine before I get to the fairing anyway.
