Oh don't worry the seat will be great which is why I'm not covering it myself  8)

I also have some gadget plans and part conversions I'm working on and keeping under wraps until I get a working prototype  :-X

Spoke to the guys covering the seat.  It would be almost $200 extra for the gel and another week so I'm just going to get the seat covered for now.

Just ordered new suspension for her today!  Progressive front and rear.  Its really going to be nice to have modern tech shocks and progressive springs in the suspension instead of the 30 year old shocks and springs.

Haven't found a place the does wheels (truing) yet but I'm still looking.  Would like to get the rims redone cause the chrome is flaking off  :(  I don't have a way of measuring the thickness of the metal in the rim bead so I don't know if its ok to get a new finish or just start looking for new rims.

The engine is quieter with the cam chain tightened.  The clutch noise is damn near gone too.  I still need to check the valve clearances.

 ;D ;D ;D  NEW SEAT!!!  ;D ;D ;D

I got the seat in... I rode around and the UNI filter has got to go... running crazy lean.  I will play with jetting when I pull the carbs.  I just want to ride it for summer.

This winter will be hella busy though... Stripping it to the frame and will go from there.

Thanks  ;D

Just got the confirmation my suspension order shipped... minus the snap rings  :-[  Backorder... I'm afraid they may be discontinued  :o Hope that my old snap rings are in good shape.

Front

10Wt fork oil
progressive springs
seals and dust covers

Rear

Progressive shocks
130lb progressive springs

I figure this is the best setup for solo + cargo or 2 up riding.
I'm stoked and I can't wait to carve up roads with...non...30 year old suspension.  ;D

Oh and I did change gearing when I got the new sprokets... running 17t / 38t   What?....what.... yeah I know its high gearing... I like it.  Its nice to cruise at 45-50MPH.  Plus I can damn near max out the speedo in 3rd gear  :o  Less upshifting, less downshifting

More to come so stay tuned  ;)

isn't gearing like that rough on your engine, though?

I don't know.  It was 1 up and 2 down from stock.  Probably harder on the clutch if you do a lot of stop and go but I don't go in town a lot.  Most stoplights around here are .5 to 1 mile apart.

I might consider a change in gearing.  Right now, it seems like I'm doing almost all my riding in 2nd gear, up to and around 30. :P

true  gearing depends on where you ride... I cruise between 60 and 80 MPH on the interstate.  Around town with the new gearing is 2nd and 3rd gear.  Use to be 4th and 5th.

Not much has happend the past few days... I did work a little on Rina.  I'm going to try the UNI air filter again, I turned out the mix screws a half turn and re-synced the carbs.  We will see with the ride to work tomorrow if I keep it or not.  ::)

I also played with the ignition I noticed the advancing springs where a little weak as full advance was happening right off idle... literly I blipped the throttle and with a timing light it was full advance. :o  I did have a bog off idle, was just how she was since I got her.  I replaced the springs with ones from my CB900's old unit.  it did seem to improve.  From what I can tell full advance happens above 2500RPM.  8)

My suspension arrives tomorrow so she gets new shocks and all new springs.  The forks are going to come off so they are being rebuild completely.  bike bandit also shipped my snap rings today I'm glad they arn't discontinued ;D

I have a taper bearing conversion kit on the way also hope to get it with the suspension but doubt it.  The upcoming weekend is going to be busy anyway with the 4th n all... I do have next monday off to do various chores around the house... will likely sneak off and work on Rina when nobody's looking    ;)

Sorry, been a while since I checked in. I like the seat, very tasteful.

$45 for truing the rotor and slotting it seems like a decent price. Is your rotor warped? Just wondering. I drilled the rotor on the 500 myself on my drill press. It wasn't too bad. I think I'll do it on my 650 as well.

Have you used your soda blaster yet? A suggestion if you have not. Run about 25 to 50 feet of hose before the water seperator. This lets the air cool down and cool air won't hold as much moisture, this will allow the separator to work more efficiently. Also, you can pick up in line desicant filters that you can hook right to the little gun thingy and that will take out the remaining moisture. These are just things I've done and it seems to make a difference for me.

hard bags aren't unobtanium, they're just hardtofindium.
I got mine for $100something on feebay, and one had road rash through the side, with a broken hinge.  The other was fine. Both were badly weathered.
...so I did what any sane person would do and fiberglassed, bondo'd, and painted.
They do probably come up, but not often. Before I found them, I was planning on getting cortech sport bags, that work in a tribag system, snapping in a tailbag. Very nice system.

I don't think its warped but it could use a resurfacing.  The guy at the machine shop said he would true it up  if it needed  and he would resurface it.  It may fall as a pet project but thought it would at least improve the braking performance a smidge...single disk brakes are well.... lacking on a 500 lb bike.

I have tried the blaster a little bit but I ended up fixing a few things.  I will try to remember pics when I get home.  I will see about getting something to attach to the end like you say

I'm ok with the soft bags for now but I would be open to options.

The paint on Rina is wonderful for being 30 years old but way up close I can see the paint cracking and some scuffing.  Paint would be the last thing I would do.  If I get hard bags I would probably rattle can them flat black until I would be ready to paint Rina.  It would be nice to get a large 3rd bag to lock my helmet in, to keep honest people.....honest.

The shocks are rusted to hell once I get the new shocks I may eliminate the soft bags

Here is a pic of the part I'm referring too. It helps to remove the last little bit of moisture out of the airstream.

I'll have to keep an eye out for something like that.  does that work by a dessicant or something?

Rina's suspension was delivered

Its strange but I didn't need a spring compressor at all to get the springs installed on the shocks and that has me a bit worried...shouldn't they be more difficult to get on?  Especially these cause I got the heavier duty ones ???   I just pulled the spring and cup down and slipped on the collet that came with the kit... I read the instructions afterward  ;D and they told me nothing different  ???

Yup just dessicant. The cool thing is once the dessicant is full of water it changes pink so you know it's time to get a new one. I also have one plugged into my HVLP spray gun.

Definately let us know how the new suspension performs, I may be upgrading mine once I get the cash (and the #$%^ing bike back together)

wow cool I will definitly have to look for something like that thanks  8)

I did get the rear suspension and the sag is pretty much gone, Its strange to have working shocks in the back again  ;)

I'm probably going to wait for my bearings and snap rings before I tear the front end apart.  I will do it all in 1 shot.

mmk yesterday my fork clips came in so I tore the front end down and rebuilt the forks after work today.  Here they sit as of now.  Replaced the seals, dust covers, O rings, clips and cleaned them up.

I received more parts today

Replacing my cluster with something a little more modern.  I'm replacing the headlight ears with one off a CB900 to also clean up the front.  The turn signals are going to be mounted on the ears.  Photos later its too dark now  :P

I'm going to match my new odometer mileage with my old one.  I was going to use my dermal but it rotates the wrong way  >:(  A drill is way too slow.... then I spotted my fan in the corner... After Fing with it for a while I found a way of grafting on a part of an old speedo cable then using a pair of wire strippers as a platform and to weigh the new gauge down I put it together... the end result is just above 60MPH which would take roughly 333 hours to get 20k miles or almost 14 days... arrg.. its better then nothing and Its probably going to be redone but I'm tired tonight.

As you can tell I am hell-bent on getting the new and old odometer to match.

there are actually gauge shops in existance that will match one to an existing one legally.
