Darn choke! Has this ever happened to you?
« on: June 05, 2009, 07:36:36 PM »
I went to start my bike this morning. I reached down to open the choke, and it wouldnt budge. Not 1 mm. I ended up using the end of the handle of my hammer to tap it upwards to open the choke. Any suggestions how to remedy this?

Wow - when's the last time you operated your choke?  That mechanism is not too terribly stout.  Now you have me scared.  ???

Is that a cable operated choke?  Was it a cool morning? Sometimes cable sheathing binds when it's cold...  Have you ever lubed the cable?

Nope never lubed a choke cable. I should have stated this is for a 75cb550f where the choke handle moves up and down

OK, my 750 K3 has a similar setup.  Is something jammed in the linkage?  I don't have any other suggestions personally sorry.

Woof. Sounds like the choke rod is binding. Did the pivot get bent somehow? You can just hit it with lube and pray, but generally speaking the choke shouldn't bind.

What if you oil the choke shaft with wd40?

Nothing is caught inbetween. The lube idea came up at work and I was gonna try wd40 on it to see if that loosens it up. Also the PO rebuilt all the carbs. I noticed the choke a little tight at his house but nothing like this morning. Thx all for the help I do appreciate it

OK  the closest carb to the choke switch/left side. There is what appears to be a ballbearing that runs on a track{up/down} at the end of the track is a place for it to lock down. It seems to be getting hung up right there. Any suggestions
