Hello everyone
« on: June 05, 2009, 11:00:37 AM »
Just wanted to introduce myself, say hello.  ;D  My name is Shawn, out here is sunny Tempe, AZ.  My pride and joy is my 2004 Kawasaki ZRX1200, but I've been looking around for awhile for an old CB 750 to fix up.  Well, last night I found a 1978 in absolutely horrible shape, but the guy only wanted $100 so I said what the hell.  The motor isn't siezed and I think it only has about 5,000 miles, but it's been sitting in the guys backyard for the past 15 years. >:(  Getting this thing up and running and roadworthy again is going to be a big challenge for me.  But I'm looking forward to it and hopefully learning a lot from you guys along the way.  I'm sure I'm going to be posting a ton of questions in the coming months, so go easy on me!  I promise to use the search function first.  ;)  Warning - don't look at the following picture if you're feeling queezy.

Hello and welcome. You'll likely find all you need, or a link to all you need from here.

Nice looking trailer set up.

It never fails to amaze me about how many of our old bikes have sub-10,000 miles on them and have just been sitting, rotting into the earth, often completely uncovered, for decades. What are the owners thinking. Someday I'll take it for a ride?  They were just somebody's over sized Christmas toy, play with it for a few weeks then never again.

Amazing.

Have fun.

I know!  You would think he would have at least put a two dollar tarp over the thing or something. ::)

Well, what I didn't mention is that it doesn't have a title.  The guy I bought it from was storing it for his brother's friend whom neither have seen in over 15 years.  But I stopped by my local motor vehicle department to see what the process was to get this thing legal (I've never bought a vehicle without a title before).  First step is to trailer it over to the MVD for an inspection, then they'll research any owners via the VIN.  Then I gotta send a certified letter to whomever they dig up.  If I don't get any response in 15 days, I should be able to apply for a bonded title.  Seems like a lot of work, but shouldn't cost me much of anything.  And if for some reason I cannot get it legal, well.....guess I'll just try to part it out.  Keep your fingers crossed for me!!

Lotta work? As far as bureacracies go, that's nothing. Several here have States that are much harder, for no good reason.

i did one in Indiana years ago for a little dirt bike W/O a title. Same procedure,  Step by step, no problem.

I really hope it all works out because I'm starting to get attached to this 'ol beast.  Musta went out to the garage 3 or 4 times last night just to look at the thing.  ;D
