cb550 cam chain guide issues
« on: June 05, 2009, 11:32:49 AM »
I went to take the head of my cb550 toda y and everything went fine till I went to take the bolt out of the chain guide. For some reason it just spins like the threads arent hooking? But I can see that the exposed threads are fine. I have tried pulling the bolt while turning and putting pressure on the other end of the olt on the inside, but nothing. Anybody got any help?  ??? All help is appreciated.

The cam chain guide has no bolts.  If you mean the cam chain tensioner, the bolt does not turn out.  Rather, it is removed with the tensioner as a unit by pushing the bolt into the cylinder bank and pulling upward on the tensioner to remove.  This is done with the cylinder bank raised about 1/4" after the cam and sprocket have been removed and the chain slackened.

Could you be referring to the two bolt(s) on the cam sprocket (part #12 in the illustration below)?

There is a bolt at the top through the head and if this is just spinning it means the threads on either the bolt or in the tensioner assembly are shot.
Only thing i can suggest is carefully cut the head off and push it in but you dont want to damage the head surface or it will leak oil
