77/78 550 stock pipes...????...
« on: June 05, 2009, 04:19:36 PM »
I just picked up a right side set of stock pipes for my 78 k,and there are a couple differences..

There are mig plug welds instead of spot welds

There is a paragraph on emissions stamped on them

and the indents are a bit different..

I'm more curious than concerned, any thoughts

Loud pipes suck.......

If you buy something.........pay for it !
If you sell something .......ship it !
If you say you are going to do something......do it !
If you have a question about something......ask it !
When the seller answers ........let him know whether you still want it or not !
If you receive something .....let the seller know you got it !
If you get something and are happy/un happy with it .....let the giver/seller know !
If you have any kind of issue,shipping/receiving/quality/price/shipping charges etc !

The paragraph is found on later replacement mufflers. It's a requirement for newer pipes made to the old designs as nowadays they don't meet noise standards.

Where did you find them? I need a new set of pipes for our '78 550K.

Jonesy...........more curiosity...so you are saying that these were Honda replacement, not stock(on the bike new).......... they seem to be made better,.......might be something to look for when buying used pipes

I don't know what these OEMs are like but they look OK

http://www.motostoricheitaliane.com/omol_70_80_90.html

You can still buy original new 2 & 3 K3 pipes from David Silver and I used these to make new 1 & 4. Just cut the muffler off and welded it on the down pipes turned round a few degrees. The indentations for the swing arm end up at the bottom so you can't see them.

Not perfect but much better than rusty dull mufflers.
