Aluminum rim fix ?

Hi Guys, been up north to my property for a couple of days and brought some bike bits back with me. What i want to know is, i have a really nice 3.5 inch DID aluminum rim that came off a drag bike and it has 6 holes either side of the rim where the slick tyre was screwed to the rim. I know i can still use the rim as it is but i want to fill the little holes up. Does anyone know the best way to go about this?

Howdy mick, the holes can be ally welded then filed flat, if your lucky you may get no distortion. If you do ,you can get the rims re-rolled .

Have you thought about just getting some small alloy plugs machined up, maybe taping a thread in the rim then screw the plugs in with some loctite

Hi Aussie, i would rather have them filled, i was thinking of something like devcon but was a little worried about the holes ending up a different colour. They are beautiful rims and i want to use them on my F1 cafe bitza... ;D

Come to think of it, i was at Quinns marine ( boat shop) the other day and noticed they have alloy repair in a tube. Its like that (need it) that has two parts you squeeze together and makes a putty.
The alloy stuff, can be sanded/filled/drilled and looks exactly like alloy.Its used for tinnys and alloy fuel tanks

I have welded my rim that was off a drag bike and it works great

tig the holes up and just machine the welds flat again, no worries

Here's my recommendation, check out the videos and read the specs, it's good stuff. Lower temps too, so it might not cause any warpage. I've used it for repairs and fabrication, so I think I can honestly recommend it. A's a side note, small quantities are available on eBay from several sellers.
