Introduction - New to forum
« on: November 08, 2005, 04:14:27 PM »
Hey Everybody!

My name is Mark, and I'm new here.  I'm considering getting a CB 750 K2 off a guy at work who will give it away.  It's been stored in a shed in Tucson for I don't know how long.  I'm sure rust won't be a problem.  It's currently complete, but the engine is apart for a gasket replacement that was never done.  It was running before it was disassembled.  The owner decided he didn't want to go to the trouble of completing the job and just left it with the current owner.  My motto is:  If it's free, it's for me.  I think I'll take it off his hands.

Anybody want to offer any advice about how to get this thing back on the road?  Any potential pitfalls I need to be aware of?

HI MARK,

Welcome aboard!! Glad to have you along for the ride.

I can't really say what to do first on your bike find.  Some people like to start in different ways.  I would recommend that you pick up one of the manuals.  Try Clymer, Haynes, or Honda itself.  They are all worth looking into.  Even these manuals boil down to personal preference.  ~~~ We always have so many different choices ~~ Gotta lovit!!

   Enjoy the ride~~jaknight

Welcome. You might want to also invest in a parts list which has very detailed exploded diagrams. You can get one from CMSL, it's a very good reprint.

These machines are very messy and highly complicated- not to mention all the exhorbitant costs involved.
If you're willing to cover at least some of the gas expenses, I'd be willing to come there and help you get rid of it.

...welcome to the board...if you love to tinker this is a project u'll get alot of enjoyment out of.   And you have all the knowledge u'll ever need on this board.  Just think of it as a jig saw puzzle.  A very heavy and greasy jig saw puzzle...

Welcome to the boards. Lik the other's said, you'll find all the help here you could ever want.

As for your project, how far torn down is the engine right now? If it's not too far torn apart, you might be able to just reassemble what you've got and put it back in the bike. The better bet, though would be to complete the tear down and go right through the engine. That way you can see what's good, what's not and what needs work.

Or if all else fails and Uncle Ernie doesn't want it, I'll help you out, too.   ;)

Be prepared to invest a lot of money into this.  And when I say a lot, I mean at LEAST a few hundred dollars on tools/parts to get it running in top shape.  And that's not anything to say about making it look nice after you have it running again :o

I've probably put $500-$600 more into my CB650 than it would ever sell for.  And hey, for a poor starving college student, that ain't chump change!  ;D

BUT... if it's something you think you would like to spend countless hours doing, then hop on the wagon.  All the hard work and blood, sweat, and tears are certainly worth it in the end.  Imagine parking it in front of a store only come back to with a small crowd gathered around gawking in envy.  ;)

I never tried rebuilding a bike until July, when I bought my 550. Now I ride it to work every day. This site is the only reason I was able to succeed. Just watch out for Terry from Australia. He's a madman.
