looks sort of shallow

 If you took out the new one , and any old ones, the flat part of the port you see, is a wide as the hole.

 So take the new ones out for now & see how it fits.

I only paid $30 on ebay for my pipes, so I wouldn't recommend doing this to new ones but . . .

As I had problems getting my pipes to fit i drilled the holes in the flanges just slightly larger to get them to fit easier.  Probably not the greatest thing to do, but like i said, they were $30.

I wonder if a ratcheting cargo strap or two would help get your pipes into place.

Was that pipe shipped via UPS by any chance? What condition was the box in when it arrived?

Hmm, strapping it might actually be worth a shot. I'll give that a go and see what happens.

Yea UPS. The box was old, but the pipe was well protected with expanded foam bags all around it.

I still think you may have extra gaskets in the pic you showed.

 Take an original spigot, make sure it is not bent where the screws go thru (crucial).

 Now with the new gasket out, but old used still in, your spigot should slide in and be touching the shoulder where the screw fastens it to head. IF there is an 1/8 or more gap, you have an extra gasket or more in there.

Finally got them to seat up. The F sounds better than ever before! I love it!!

There was a little buildup, or piling of aluminum just inside the bottom of one of the head ports. The edge of the pipe was digging into that buildup and it kept the pipe from getting all the way in to the gasket. I took my pocket knife and scraped that little pile of aluminum until it was nice and smooth, put a fresh application of grease around the port, and 25 minutes later started her up for the first leak check. No leaks first time. I'll see what I can do about some video so you guys can put an ear to it.

 Is the Header Grease, next to the Elbow Grease at PepBoys ?
