Just finished my motorcycle safety course this afternoon and I spent the weekend riding an '09 Ninja 250. Hopped on my 500 as soon as I got home just to feel the differences, and boy are there differences. Brakes are the biggest one, I can't believe what a difference. The Ninja's brake were so touchy(but really effective once you got used to them), nothing at all like mine. Other than that, I like everything about my bike better. More class, more style, not to mention the soul a 36 year old bike has.

Didn't really think I would enjoy riding a crotch rocket too much, but I have to say it wasn't bad at all. Still wouldn't trade it for my bike though.

Perfect score on the road test, I now have my M2. All in all, a good weekend!

I took the experienced rider course last Friday... On my 350F! Dude about fell out of his chair when he saw it...

We weren't allowed to use our own bikes. Well worth the time for sure. Learned quite a bit.

I know the feeling Lenny. I went on a 100-mile Poker Run this weekend. My 550k was the oldest bike there! 30 years difference in technology has produced a lot of good things, but it also allows for over engineering. Like Brother Occam said, entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem!

I remember going to a rider training morning once with a mate who had been ordered to by the Judge, they all had to ride 50cc bikes, the cop running it saw me watching and asked if I wanted to join in.
What a hoot, trying to ride along yellow basketball court lines at 5mph on my T350 she didn't like that at all.

Congrats on passing the course. Prior to a year ago I had never straddled a bike, so I decided I'd drop the $180 to take the course. Even more valuable than my safety gear IMO, but still wear the gear

Old bikes rule, anyone can buy a new one and have someone else wrench it, but it takes something special to take an old bike and keep it running.

Took the experienced rider MSF safety course today on my 77 750F2. Passed it! After years of just renewing permits, I finally have an official M license

The course is good fun, and very informative, and a full day that wears you out a bit. The little obstacle courses are really fun, and you really learn a bit about what you can and can't do on your bike. Most brutal thing is LOTS of idling in line waiting for your turn on the exercises. Bike gets hot, wants to go

Ran great all day though, performed as well as anything else there.

WIth all the big cruisers and crotch rockets, my bike stood out a bit I suppose. Everyone complimented it and asked me questions about it.

All in all, I would highly recommend the course.

My bike is a big ol' turd, but I sure like it better than my CBR.

When I took the MSF course, we were on little 125 singles. They even had a light to tell you what gear you were in.

Maybe I'm going about this all wrong!
Perhaps instead of ordering parts from foriegn lands I should just grab my hand pick and a whisk broom an head into the mountains to find some fossilised parts?

When I raced another guy there had a 78 zuki. We always wanted a dinosaur class. Next oldest was a 94 V-max then all the 2k+ crotch rockets.

I say ride 'em all, old and new,big and small. Sportbikes rock in the twistys. Old bikes are cool and have more soul. Big bikes are great for touring. Get one or two of each.

If you are brave enough to really lean it over. I've lowsided a few times I'm not in a hurry to do it again.
